Excellent food & a super bang for your buck. I’ve only had the catfish lunch special with the crawfish Etouffee and seafood salad sides. (3 times) It’s credit card only carry-out. No cash. Super simple process. Order and pay on their website, choose a time for pick-up, or just order when ya get there and wait for them to bring it to your car. About a 15 minute wait. The owner/chef is a pleasure to deal with. Give it a try, ya won’t be disappointed.

I’m not sure what happened. It was good last couple times last year. The fish is bland, the greens has too much vinegar and no flavor like before. The cornbread ain’t right. The rice in the gumbo is not enough and it’s mushy. The chicken in the Gino is strange. The sausage doesn’t taste the same. It at least could’ve been browned for taste and flavor. The potatoes in the potato salad was too hard. Dirty rice-mushy. I may try one more time but this was terrible.

I don’t see the professionalism in taking my review as such a complaint as if I didn’t give your establishment 4 stars or have anything good to say. I am sharing my experience as a customer, good and not so good to my liking, so comparing me to your other customers as if I haven’t been a customer sounds as if you want me to think like them. I don’t mind ordering food online even though it can be a hassle for me personally at times. I also reviewed the menu to check for what was in certain foods and had to call you to ask because I didn’t find anything stating what was in the dirty rice specifically. Food itself is expensive right now, in my opinion (it’s a google review). Ither people not “complaining” about the prices doesn’t mean others may not feel the same, but I didn’t ask you to change them or say I wouldn’t pay it. I mean come on now. If you feel like I jabbed at your ego or tried to be negative I did not. You commented literally on everything I said except the positive feedback I gave. I could take your comments as an insult- of course I’m aware of what type of establishment it is, but I see you didn’t comprehend what I was saying, so I don’t need to. I’ll keep my review posted along with the smiley face I ended with. ⬇️

I am from Louisiana and I’ve been in Indy for 10 years. I’ve been trying to find a restaurant that reminded me of home ever since. Chef Borels is what Yats pretends to be. I just ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo with cornbread for lunch today and when I opened that container and took my first bite, I was home again. I can not wait to try everything she has to offer. Take it from a creole man, if you want authentic creole food, order from Chef Borel’s.

Today I tried the catfish luncheon: a lg fried catfish filet, crawfish ettouffee, greens, potatoe salad, corn bread muffin, and a shrimp and crab salad. It was amazing. Every item on my plate could stand alone as far as taste and flavor, however, together it was simply amazing. The portions were more than adequate, in fact I had enough for lunch and dinner. When you want a seafood delight try Chef Borel and you won’t be disappointed.

I tried the lunch special with the catfish and etouffee and it was awesome. Those greens were amazing. Even if you’re not typically a fan these are totally worth a try because I usually skip my veggies. The potato salad was good, just the right balance of flavors not weak not strong. The portion sizes are no joke either. I can’t even speak for the crab salad because it’s still in my fridge unopened. Good food and plenty of it. I’ll absolutely make a return lunch trip in the not too distant future.

What a wonderful find! I showed up at 1:50 pm and they close at 2. The lady was so sweet and they brought the food out to my truck. I recommend to all and I will most certainly be back!

Tried it for the first time and was very happy. You must order online even if you are standing at their window. Perhaps their payment system is tied to the online menu service. They did include a paper menu with the order which will make it a little easier to decide what I want next time.

Delicious food, lunch combo was way bigger than I expected and each part was amazing. Plus the service was super friendly!

I’m originally a Marine Brat and still remember growing up with grits, black eyed peas, and sweet tea from the South. I was so excited to see Hoppin Johns on a menu. They did not disappoint, so flavorful. I can’t wait to eat there again.
