I have been going to this place for years. Its location isnt a normal area i am around in anchorage but we make a special trip to get food here. I would consider the pricing moderate to slightly expensive. But i think the chinese food is worth every penny. You can sit and eat or take to go which i have done both. The customer service is good here. Its kinda a whole in the wall place but its great. They have expended tje food selection so they have something for everyone. Expresso, Mocha, Soup, Sandwich, Burgers, Chinese (lunch & dinner specials), & they now are serving all day breakfast too.

I got the most bland, basic, lettuce FILLED California sandwich there today. The avocado was literally a sliver, and they used American cheese bleh. I can’t believe I paid 10 bucks for it.

I have ordered to-go from here over the years and the fact that we were the only diners should have been a red flag, but a friend and I met there for dinner on 3-7-14. We ordered the appetizer platter, pork fried rice, 2 drinks and hot tea When the drinks came, i asked about the hot tea and she just stood there staring at me. I was like, “you know the hot tea with the little cups?” and she acted like she didn’t know what I was talking about. A few sounds of the microwave slamming later and she emerged with 2 coffee cups of regular tea which she charged us for. The appetizer platter was a joke with 2 TINY pieces of each thing on it. The fried rice never came nor did refills, so we had to get up and find her to ask for them. Worst service I have ever had, and how they stay in business amazes me! The sandwiches at Pickle Barrel are terrible and a joke as well! Never again!

I was in there for my first time today at lunch. Ordered a sandwich (simple order) I asked for onion and cheese on my sandwich and a pickle on the side to go. When I got back to work I did not have onion, cheese or a pickle and everything they charged me extra. So I called and a Asian woman answered and apparently could not understand English or speak it very well. I had mentioned my problem not getting the pickle etc.. hence the name of the restaurant is “Pickle Barrel”, so she got the girl on the phone that made the sandwich apparently and she said oh no she gave me all that was ordered and I said well I was the one eating it and it did not have any of that on the sandwich. They did not offer any compensation. Pickle Barrel is not recommended. Lousy place.

With two chinese restaurants being in such close proximity you would think one of them would have given up the location and moved elsewhere but when you try this sit down restaurant the experience is far different from that of Pink Peppers. For one I actual got a metal fork (PP only has plastic utensils) and actual dipping pans for the sweet and sour sauce whereas PP just places a plastic dipping cup on the plate as well as a glass with ice. Yeah yeah this may just be table presentation but this goes to show that Chef Lees actual invests more into giving their customers a more at home dining experience.

For a to-go order sub sandwich this was a really great treat! Service was umm.. Strange? I felt a little hurried through the menu, being the only person in the shop. The sub was grade A fantastic, though. 12 inch wheat bread sub with turkey, salami, lettuce, avacado, onions, mustard, oil, vinigar, and cranberry sauce. It really hit the spot in the way a brownbag sandwich should. I would have a strong preference to go back over any fast food outlet.

We order two dinners for the first time at this place, I was really enjoying the food untill I Found a small curly HAIR ON MY RICE, no big deal I thought I just wont eat the rice, but then my wife tells me there is a hair on her rice too. I thought maybe is just fiber from the rice so I look for more in my rice and to my surprise I found a long piece of hair. GROST!

Every time I come here, I always refer a friend and it brought so many great memories. This placed definitely attracted high schoolers due to being within close distance and busy workers. This place offered really well-prices food with it’s generic unthemed menu. This place is special within my heart, no matter how generic it may seem.

I havent tried the chinese food here yet but the sandwiches are pretty good and reasonably priced. The coffee is highway robbery though. $4 for a cup of coffee? Child please!

The Chinese food has some of the best flavors in Anchorage. There are other options for sandwiches and breakfast on the menu, but not what they do best, which is Chinese food.
