Our family of four absolutely loved Chelo’s kitchen! This is another one of those moments where I almost didn’t want to write a review because the food and service were amazing! I’m leaving atmosphere blank on this review because it is your typical diner that is kind of in need of some TLC in terms of seating. But I DO NOT want that to detract from my overall rating because once again the food and service were great! I love how Chelos does not complicate foods that don’t need to be complicated.

The food was great and flavorful. It was nice in the inside like a dinner from back in the day. I had the steak carne asada burrito with fries. Omg the best I have ever tasted. And the chicken noodle soup was delicious. The broth alone was amazing. Much needed!!

1st time. Food was good service was better! Our waitress Angie was nice with a fun, inviting & pleasant attitude. Seating was self serve. I had the Friday morning special; Catfish & Eggs. The catfish was REAL, big as hell & fresh. The breading was a tad too crunchy & a bit bland for my taste. My eggs were scrambled w/cheddar cheese, spinach & mushrooms. Eggs were slightly runny & the spinach could’ve been de stemmed or cooked longer. Hub had well done steak & eggs w/hash browns & French toast. It was all just right, steak was perfectly cooked, tender & NOT dry. The cranberry & orange juice were nice and tart, def 100% juice not that cocktail stuff. Overall our experience was great from start to finish. Affordable & tasty. Everything you want from diner style eating. Would recommend & plan to return to try the dinner menu.

Today we went to Chelo’s for breakfast on our way back to Detroit. At first it was busy, and we waited a minute for the host with the most to tell us it will be a short wait, asked if we had time to wait (which I thought was sweet) and even said well it will be the one big table in the middle if it takes too long.

Best Corned beef sandwich , very moist, but low fat. Cuban sandwich is one of the only proper version of this in town. No extra credit card fee. Nice.

A hidden gem of a neighborhood diner. Service fast and friendly. Ground beef and olive empanada was piping hot and perfectly flaky. Authentic Cuban sandwich with solid fries. Jambalaya (special) was uncommonly good for the price. Only one shrimp, but I thought it would just be chicken so *added bonus* I guess. Overall my favorite spot for breakfast/lunch in the neighborhood.

Very good food, service was excellent this is a family owned establishment. Where it appears that the staff really knows the regulars and there appearsto be many of them. The owner being involved with the day to day operation purchases only the best ingredients.

I ordered the French Toast Combo, with sausage links and a beagle on the side. It was delicious. I also had a glass of chocolate milk which was perfect, not too sweet. The prices are very reasonable too. And if you want, you’ll be able to order in Spanish which I like, it adds to the atmosphere. I also added pictures of the menu because I did not find a good picture in any other review.
