My guy & I traveled from Poughkeepsie to Middletown and stumbled across this hidden gem. Let me start by saying that the Owner, Ms. Cheryl was so hospitable and warm in her greeting. We ordered the fried flounder, shrimp, Mac n cheese , candied yams and collard greens…and she kind enough to throw in a piece of whiting. The fish & shrimp was fried TO PERFECTION & was hands down our favorite out of everything. The collard greens were cooked clean with no meat and was very tasty. The Mac n cheese was just ok for me but my BF loved it! Wr also left with a price of the most decadent slice of red velvet cake…it was light and airy and not too rich or overly sweet. It was perfection. Do yourselves a favor & go check Cheryl’s spot out…you won’t be disappointed :-)!

It was everything this homesick Georgian could have hoped for. A kind welcome, meatless sides, perfect, stupendously perfect fried fish, crispy, seasoned just right. The offer of a giant squirt bottle of hot sauce soothed my expatriate soul.

I placed a very large order and spent $100 in this restaurant. Waited over an hour and 15 minutes to get home and there was hair tangled in the food. I called Cheryl and requested a refund and immediately told my family to stop eating. I brought the food back. She then refused to give me a refund and proceeded to call the police on me because I insisted I wanted my refund and no longer wanted any food from her establishment. The police arrived and agreed that I should be granted a refund for the whole order being that I brought all of the food back and it was clearly inedible. She then began arguing and going back and forth with the police that SHE called on ME. I understand things happen and no one is perfect. But you cannot treat paying customers like that and refuse to accept that you were wrong. She needs to do better for her business and the community she is serving. Would not recommend. Very unprofessional and I never leave reviews! But for this I will.

Cheryl is like family when she meet you. Her son as well, he is the most kind respectful young man. They make you feel very welcome and appreciated. Also the food is terrific!

Worth the 30min drive. The food taste like home, the service is down to earth and want you to have a great experience dine in style is small cafe format but the aroma of the food is worth the sit down. To top it all off food is MADE TO ORDER HOT OFF THE STOVE!!! Can’t wait for our next visit

Cheryl’s use to be good but I don’t know what happen. But it was far from fresh. It’s as if they are reheating old meat but you can definitely tell. And it’s being rushed now. Very slimy and can tell when meat is old. Rice and beans taste like it’s been in the kitchen next to the dish soap and had a little flavor. The establishment needs to do better. I understand things are high now. But you can get people sick with your cheap method.

The decor may not be up to par, but do not let that fool you; the food is amazing. It is pure soul food. From the cabbage to the greens, from the Mac and cheese to fries, from the catfish to flounder, even the chicken is flavored to soul food perfection. Pass by Cheryls soul food and be well fed.

I finally got to get food from Cheryl’s Fried Fish. I ordered 2 fish, and 2 sides. I chose greens and yams. It was ready in about 10 minutes, a generous portion, and everything was delicious!! Service was kind & considerate.
