This was my first visit to Chicago Beef Joint. I had read a number of really positive reviews from others so I had high expectations. First the atmosphere. The huge patio is divine. There are a variety sized tables in an open section with some that have umbrellas. Then there is a covered roof section. And another section of couches. We thought it was a wonderful set up. Inside there are a number of tables with ample TVs.

I felt that I was back in Sweet Home, Chicago. The Chicago style Hot Dogs are authentic, even up to the snap the dogs make when you take a bite. No more trips to South Bend (closest Portillos to GR). Our server Max was great! Ask for him. Please note that the ketchup in the pic was only for the fries. NEVER on a Hot Dog.

Service was good, the staff working were friendly and great. We all ordered hotdogs and they were cold. The buns were hard. They were either stale or sat in a warmer too long. Either way, it didn’t taste very good.

If you like portillo’s in Chicago, this place is spot on to portillo’s Italian beef and their Chicago dogs. Prices here are considerably much higher for the food, as there is no other competition in Grand rapids that serves Italian beef. So if you didn’t want to make a road trip to Chicago or Detroit I would recommend giving this place a try.

Food was good, reminiscent of Portillo’s (minus the cake!) The interior isn’t super warm or welcoming, but service was friendly. Beer was cold, but prices felt too high. We did not receive an itemized receipt so it’s unclear if it was three beers that was the dealbreaker, but not a “cheap” dinner like we expected.

Had very high hopes this would compare to portillos or Al’s but it didn’t compare. Very tasty but not at that level. Beer had floaters, we told them it wasn’t good and they said they are glad the keg was blown and they couldn’t wait to replace it. They didn’t seem to care. Will go back with tapered expectations.

We went during the first week of their new menu & had great service. The manager came over and checked to see what we liked/ if there was anything we didn’t like so that they could take notes which was cool. I don’t drink anymore, but they had a full bar that would’ve made me happy back in the day when I did. I had the half dip but next time I’ll definitely be going full dip. The fries were perfectly seasoned as well 🙂

Wow Delicious!!! Authentic Chicago Beef sandwich felt like I was eating in Chicago. Outstanding!! Very friendly staff, delivery was perfect and can’t wait to go back. On my sandwich I did order the mild peppers and it was perfect.
