A small size restaurant inside the old capitol mall. The dining room seems to be a little outdated and chairs were a little wobbly, but not unbearable.

Don’t let the location of this excellent Chinese restaurant fool you. The food here is so good and so fresh. The service was excellent. You’ll be happily surprised with any dish you request. I got the sesame shrimp and will compare other’s dishes to the one made from China Star. Absolutely delicious!

I have loved this place since I was a kid, has been run by the same family forever. I see they offer a lot of more authentic Chinese food but I love their Americanized Chinese. Cash only and always on my list of places or eat when I visit town.

My to go lunch place if I feel for Chinese food. It’s because of their quick service and price. China star probably one of the best Chinese place in Iowa City area considering price someone will pay for decent quality/amount of food.

I and the kids ordered beef fried rice, egg rolls and egg drop soup for dinner. Their prices are so expensive that it’s not worth their food quality. I have eaten these dishes at different Chinese restaurants and it tasted way better than this. Customer service was ok. They keep their place clean so our overall experience was not the best but it can be improved.

I got delivery. Egg rolls were tasteless, The sesame chicken was 80% breading and 20% chicken. Broccoli was steamed with absolutely no seasoning. Will not order from them again

I love China Star, by far the best Chinese food place in Iowa city! I really like their Shrimp Mei Fun and Shrimp Egg Foo Young When I’ve had a long, hard day there’s nothing that makes me happier than China Star.

After moving to Iowa City from Philly, I was searching for a great Chinese restaurant. I tried many of the Chinese takeout restaurants in the Coralville/Iowa City area and can confirm that China Star is hands down the best around. They have amazing prices for lunch specials and authentic and affordable authentic Chinese dishes. The staff speaks Mandarin so if you have any special requests they are super friendly. It is a hole in the wall and parking is in the ramp, but it worth the visit.

Ordered shrimp fried rice, chicken chow mein, and 8 crab rangoons. The shrimp fried rice was correct, the chicke chow mein was literally just cabbage. No chicken, no noodles, just watery cabbage, tried to call about it, the guy who answered was extremely rude, I was told noodles don’t come with it & was not offered a replacement or refund and was spoken over the whole time. The crab Rangoons were also all burnt and barley had any filling. Won’t be coming again
