For us, craft is everything. “Craft” is most often defined as doing things by hand. But we’d like to be more specific. For us, craft is complex, innovative beers. Craft is food that inspires and surprises the palate. Craft is service that delights and exceeds your expectations. Most importantly, craft means championing love and integrity in every aspect of what we do. Great beer and even better food — for everyone. We’ve been dedicated to that very simple idea since 2010. Please join us at the bar. We’ve been saving you a seat.

Expansive beer menu. Food menu was comprised of your standard bar fare. Service was good. Ordered mussels and it like having an entire bay in my bowl….so much food and was tasty.

My boyfriend and I wanted some food, so I found this tap house. When we arrived, we sat at the bar. We were served by a nice guy. They only had the late menu available, so we both ordered wings. The wings were nice and crispy and took about 15 minutes to come out. When we dug in, it was good. I added hot sauce to mine, and it made it better. The bill wasn’t too bad and we had a good experience!

Visited on a summer Thursday with the family. Food was yummy, kids ordered chicken and fries from kids menu and we had the chicken and waffles (Nashville Hot) and it was a delight!! Music was nice, my kids were actually bopping their heads to the music!

Came back again! The food and service was so good that on my second trip to Washington I came back here. Once again I was impressed by how good the food and service was overall. The staff was catering and enthusiastic to us. Someone in my party had a food allergy and our server was knowledgeable and conscientious. Atmosphere was fun, clean and organized. Drinks were great. Will be coming back the next time I am in Washington DC. Thank you so much 🙂

Stopped in here today after checking out a near by museum in the city. We showed up 20 min after they opened but were told only bar seating was available. That was fine we had a seat at the bar and the bar tender was great. We got our drinks fast and they were tasty. Our food came pretty quick too. Looked great but was just okay taste wise. I had a simple grilled cheese and tomato soup. My soup was very salty. The veggie burger was alright I was told. The restaurant is in a great location to shopping and other sights. Plenty of parking garages near by.

Our family of 14 (ages 2-76) really enjoyed our meal at City Tap House. There was something for everyone and then some on the menu. The staff was very kind from the moment of setting up our reservation, to the point of us leaving the restaurant with smiles and waves. The atmosphere was casual yet clean and inviting. Thank you for such a great experience!

Went for lunch after being told it was a great place to eat… I was very disappointed! While the food as you can see presents well the taste on the other hand is nothing special. The Ahi I felt was cut a bit thick and the sauce tasted like jar buffalo sauce, the mussels smelled when brought to the table, I tried a few but they tasted dirty, and the margarita I ordered had the most tart(est) mix I’ve ever had, I needed to add pineapple juice to cut the tartness. A plus is the atmosphere and our waitress was cool, and the location is close to shopping, however I do not think I will be returning at least no time soon.

Overall, City Tap House Penn Quarter is a decent place to eat and drink. They have a good local beer list and the food was good. Our server was kind and attentive, but the service was slow. It took about 10 minutes for us to receive waters, and another 10 minutes for our server to take our order.

I had the shrimp tacos and they weren’t too bad. The ambiance and service were passable. I would give four stars, but the restaurant charges an arbitrary restaurant fee of 4%, so they lose 2 stars for that. The price of the food should be the price without underhanded fees.
