We ate at their brick and mortar location in downtown Des Moines. The restaurant was nicely finished and the service was very friendly. Great pork and steak sandwiches, we will definitely be back.

Had the fusion sandwich and the sweet plantains. All of the food was very good and cooked perfectly. Will definitely come back. The staff was very nice and efficient. Ed was very cool and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Fair prices, and the presentation was great.

I’ve lived in Des Moines for 3 years now and didn’t know about Cubanos! I heard about them through a Paint and Sip that’s held every other Sunday I believe and wanted to give the actual restaurant a try. The space is very nice and chill. I ordered the Prickly pear lemonade, and the vegan sandwich! Before my order came out I was given a sample of the Okra and black eyed pea soup, and that soup was delicious. It had loads of spice and flavor, the fried okra added something special to the blend and I enjoyed it! I ordered the Vegan Cuban, but I am not vegan, I’m very much a meat eater. But I figure if you can make something without meat taste good, everything else would be a hit. The sandwich did not disappoint! It’s make with Jackfruit and Vega ham and I honestly couldn’t taste the difference! It was sooo good! The portion was bigger than I expected as well! I could only eat half of a half there, but I will be finishing the rest tonight. The sandwich was also served with a side of rice & beans and coleslaw, which were both very good. Oh and that lemonade was slappin!!! I’m going to be stopping by all summer just for that!!!

We waited over an hour and a half for our food. We arrived at the time the restaurant was supposed to open – 1pm. They didn’t open the doors until 1:15pm, we were the first to arrive. We ordered and didn’t receive our food until 3pm. We received no apologies whatsoever or letting us know ahead that there’d be a long wait time. We asked a few times how long it would take and we were told 20 minutes. We ordered a sandwich and yucca fries, nothing that should’ve taken over 20 minutes let alone an hour and a half. We understood they were short staffed, however the customer service was horrible. We will not ever be going back.

Very fun variations on Cuban sandwiches, plus “loaded” tostones made a most satisfying meal. The owner converted a successful food truck to a brick and mortar place just off the main drag in Des Moines; definitely worth the hunt to find it!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! This place is incredible! The Cuban sandwich was HUGE! They didn’t skimp on anything and were very generous with their meat. Neither my husband nor I could finish our sandwiches. The recipes in this truck are truly Cuban and came straight from Abuela’s recipe book. Juan is very courteous and loves what he does. Even though it is a food truck, there is seating available in the shade. If you are staying in a nearby hotel, it is worth the walk! Well done Juan!!!
