In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

We went to Dave’s on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered the #1 (2 tenders + fries). The chicken was very hot, fresh, clearly made to order. It was juicy and a really great texture, however, the spice blend wasn’t very flavorful and overall, I was disappointed in the flavor. Again, maybe it’s just a personal preference, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. The sauce was a bit mayo forward with less flavor than I was anticipating as well. It’s to be noted that we have recently moved from the deep south and flavors for fried food may just be different here in the northwest. The fries were perfectly cooked and pretty tasty, the pickles were crisp and fresh. Overall, the serving size was quite large and more than enough to fill you up.

Daves Hot Chicken is a wonderful introduction to the world of hot chicken for newcomers. Price point is attainable and in terms of quality, a very good investment. They’ve done a very good job of minimizing wait time with a very efficient ordering process at the front. Believe it or not, they’re pickles are one of my favorite components with the sandwich. The crinkle cut fries are also very good side to when waiting a texture break. All in all, it’s definitely worth visiting if you haven’t tried it.

Been to this location twice and both times the spice level has been accurate. I’ve been to another location where hot was mild and medium was nonexistent. The service here is great. Sitting outside on cooler days is enjoyable. Inside is quite loud. There’s no sound buffering materials around, so if there is a loud group or a lot of people, the sound is amplified and bounces around. Makes it sometimes difficult to hear your number called. That’s my only complaint. Everything else is great. Also be sure to ask for another pack of Dave’s sauce on the side. It really should be in a pump bottle it’s so good!

I am glad I wandered in because it was too early for the sushi place to be open. Almost left because of the limited menu. I can’t stand white meat. But the sandwich blew my mind!!! Wow! Props to the guy at the counter who talked me into it, even though I told him that’s what everyone says, “THIS one is the good one”, but he was right! I wish I had gone even spicier. Seven levels from Mild to Reaper. At $18 or so, was that with a tip? I forget, it was more than I wanted to spend on a basic lunch but I’d do it again.

Quick service and delicious hot chicken. Small menu, but they specialize in what they do, making it an easy place to grab a fast and satisfying meal for a reasonable price. Their servings are nicely sized as well.

I love Dave’s but this location sucks. They NEVER season their fries. Been here 6 times and not a once have they done it right. Do yourself a favor and find a different Dave’s or eat somewhere else in the neighborhood.
