This has become a staple for me. Living in Chicago I often escape back to my home state of Wisconsin. When I do I find comfort in some of the best food around. I originally made my ways to Deb’s for their pancakes! I must say they are outstanding. However it took just one bite of their Biscuits and Gravy and I was hooked! I have been everywhere…and I can say this place has the greatest Biscuits and Gravy I have ever had! It does not end their. On my recent visit this past Sunday our server apologized for being a bit behind. We didn’t even notice. However it is that customer service that is so hard to find. She went out of her way to let us know she knew…. but it didn’t matter because the people their at Debs are even better than the amazing food!

If it was just me eating here I’d have given it 1 star. My omlette was edible but not good at all. I also avoid wheat so asked to substitute a same priced side for the toast that came with my meal and was told they don’t allow substitutions! Really? Are you warming up prepackaged tv dinners in the back or making it from scratch? Not the family atmosphere I was expecting after reading the many positive reviews. We were the only people there at the time and a fried egg is the same price and easier to make than toast. Not like I asked for a side of steak. The fact that all 3 of my family members liked what they ordered earned Deb’s a couple extra stars. I would not choose to go back on my own though my family would. The prices for the food my family enjoyed were very reasonable. Don’t order omlettes unless you don’t know what a good one tastes like…and don’t expect menu substitutions if you have dietary restrictions.

Been to Deb’s 4 times now, twice for breakfast, once for lunch and once for dinner. That first visit for breakfast was in May 2013 and service was slow, although food arrived hot and fast once order was finally placed. Excellent corned beef hash browned on the grill but the sausage gravy on a biscuit was full of sausage bits and not pasty but creamy delectable. The next breakfast I ordered just hashbrowns with the sausage gravy but biscuit on the side. Awesome gravy crowning those crispy hashbrowns was delish and blackberry jam on the biscuit. Next visit was lunch… open face turkey/mashed taters/gravy was good but I’ll order the bread toasted next time. This evening we had the fried chicken. Service was fast today. Best fried chicken I’ve had. I generally prefer broasted but this was just as good if not better. Crispy light coating, very flavorful and dark meat was actually adequately cooked and not slimy/semiraw while the breast remained moist. Side of mashed with turkey gravy was okay but the veggies, now that was good. A mix of yellow & green beans and carrots did not come out of a can and with a good sprinkle of salt made for a good side. Back to service, often rather slow but again, food arrives prompt and hot; just request your bill when the food arrives or you’ll be in for another long wait. All in all, I’ll be going back to Deb’s for sure.
