I ate here for the first time this afternoon and I guarantee you, I will be back!! We were greeted and seated very quickly, by a smiling host. Our waitress was friendly and prompt. Today’s special @ $12.95, which included a meat, two vegetables and rolls/cornbread) was the fried chicken and it was tender, juicy, and delicious! I ordered the Mac & Cheese (what my Grandma would call a baked macaroni pie) and Lima beans, which were both mouthwateringly delicious!! Everything was neat and clean, with no water spots on the utensils. (For some reason that makes me happy) We were checked out by Nelson, the manager, and he was so nice! You could tell he was proud of his place and enjoyed his job. For the record, my lunch companion has eaten there many times over the years and tells me the food and service is consistently great!

I ordered the Friday special, the broiled flounder, with two sides: collard greens and rice and gravy. The flounder came fresh and hot with two small balls of hushed puppies included. I like that the fish is well-seasoned and I could taste the lemon in the butter. The collard greens was cooked perfectly too. However, the rice and gravy was a bit bland; not a big problem, though, since there were salt and pepper shakers on the table.

Breakfast at The Derby thus morning. Never had breakfast there since the new ownship. OMG this “Breakfast Skillet” was to die for! I’d eat that every day. Huge Breakfast menu. Cooked to order. Waitress was knowledgeable of the menu and the rest if the staff was friendly as she was. These new owners know what they are doing and know how to make ya belly smile.

Nelson(I guess he’s the store manager) I ordered a salmon salad and I didn’t say no cheese. I called back to see if i can get a replacement and the servers were really polite but he got on the phone and was rude from the moment he got otp. This isn’t the first time either he was rude. Made me not want to go back at all. When I told Nelson this he said “how is that our problem”. Which then I asked for a refund. And asked for the store owner. He refused to give any information and asked “why did I need it.” I was polite and still calm despite being disrespected by Nelson about a $18 salmon salad that had cheese and I’m lactose. Needless to say I will not return bc of one rude man name Nelson who could’ve just remade the salad and saved his extra comments.
