Our story began in 2003 when head chef Shizhou Da came to the US with the original recipe for Xiao Long Bao —Chinese steamed soup dumplings. She is the 5th generation of the original chef who created the very first Xiao Long Bao in China and has over 30 years of experience in making fresh, traditional homemade Shanghai style dim sum.
After 5 years’ restaurant business in North Jersey and New York, Chef Shizhou Da and her daughter Sally decided to bring Shanghai’s finest dumplings to Philadelphia in 2013. They chose a great restaurant location in Philly Chinatown at 1020 Race Street and attracted more and more people to come to try a bite of Shanghai style dim sum.

Not the traditional Chinese Tim Sum shop. Need to order each one. Only take cash, not credit cards! Seafood noodle is expensive for $14 for simple dish

This spot is legendary. I have been here so many times over the years and I still can’t get enough. Two items on the menu are absolutely iconic: the Shanghai pork soup dumplings and the handmade noodles with pork sauce. Those two dishes forever cement this spot as one of my all time Philly great spots (#1 for Asian at the very least). The ambiance is rustic and it’s usually packed. People line up to go here. It’s that good. Highly highly recommend!

This is another one of those great hole in the wall restaurants. You don’t come here for atmosphere. You come and return for the excellent food.

This place is SO GOOD! Super authentic dim sum place. I would highly recommend going here. Note that this restaurant takes cash only, but there is an ATM.

They sat us all the way in the back. Its a cash only place also. The rating is 4.2 out of over 3k but, I would assume that the Tom’s Dim Sum around the corner is better. The Beef Noodle Soup that we ordered was on the flavorless side and the beef was tough. We will not go back. The Tom’s Dim Sum in Media, delicious, highly recommend. The money paid was not worth it.

Visiting this week for a conference and had this spot on my list. I lived/worked in Shanghai, for two years and loved all of the pics on the walls. We ordered Xiao long baos and noodles with chicken. Yummmm. Both were great dishes. More than enough for two people. For sure coming back this week. Cash only.

This is easily the best dim sum I’ve had in Philadelphia. Their are a lot of places in this area, and I’ve eaten at many of them, but I always come back to Dim Sum Garden when I’m in town. Their shumai is some of the best I’ve had. They are always crowded but somehow always have a table within 15 minutes, regardless of my party size (3-8 people). The service is a little slow, but like is said – they are always slammed – and it’s well worth the wait. And it’s SUPER affordable. I recommend ordering family style, and when the bill comes, it’s always been $20-30/person, including bubble tea. Cash only! But they have an ATM when you walk in.
