We thoroughly enjoyed an impromptu meal here! The brisket was tender, the ribs were flavorful, the pulled pork sandwich was delicious, and we loved the carrots and black eyed peas. I could’ve eaten a second serving of those. I only wish they had the greens available, or some sort of sweet potato side dish. Friendly service. Fantastic food.

Distant Relatives is a BBQ food truck that can be found at Meanwhile Brewing Company. With some intriguing flavors and prime location, you do not want to skip out on this BBQ.

This food truck, which is parked on the property of a brewery on the south side of Austin, is a new member of a very exclusive club– Texas Monthly Magazine’s 2021 catalog of The 50 Best BBQ Joints in the state. It was also my 372nd stop on a BBQ extravaganza now spanning 35 states (the 87th stop in Texas).

Awesome food truck with amazing BBQ. best pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever had, perfectly cooked. Much better than the overcooked pork you get at the majority of places.

4.29.2022 edit: Came back for the second time and they did not disappoint. Best brisket I’ve had so far. Nice thick slices that was juicy and moist, not sure why other place slice theirs thin.

Run out of brisket, so ordered the Pork Ribs. Salty and over-spiced, specially at the thin ends. Bread was good. Ask for the smoked mustard butter sauce which is like a mustard vinaigrette. The kind staff gave me two slices of brisket after finding out I was traveling from the Philippines and had heard about this place. Smoked peanuts was ok. Nice pickling on the carrots. BTW the brisket from the fatty end was amazing.

Wow, was really impressed with the food and the variety of sauces available! Had spare ribs, chicken and brisket. All were great BBQ. Also, the burnt end black-eyed peas were legit… Pretty sure the peas were fresh! Then, the bread, chow-chow and spiced peanuts served with it were next level!

The twist these guys have on bbq is next level. We got the brisket and the burnt ends black eyed peas and they were both amazing. They also gave a small taste of their smoked peanuts and okra, which were outstanding. Wasn’t the biggest fan of their mustard sauce but the brisket doesn’t need it. Make sure you order as soon as you get to Meanwhile because there’s going to be a line and it takes time for the food to come out.

Distant Relatives is a hidden gem! Delicious food and reasonably priced. Not only are the chef and Sous chef amazing humans, this magical food cart sits at Meanwhile Brewing which provides a great ambience and great beer while eating your spare ribs and brisket. Be sure to get to this cart early before they sell out.
