You might be surprised that one of the best Mexican places you’ve ever eaten at is in Elkin, NC, but so goes my developing theory that the best Mexican restaurants are not always in the big cities, but actually in rural small towns.

Excellent food. Excellent customer service. We get take out from there almost weekly. The only problem is if you look up the phone # to “El Ahorro in Elkin NC” it gives you the wrong one. You must look up “The Mango Peel” for the right number. We didn’t get to order from there for a while because we could never get through. So glad we decided to go in and order take out once otherwise we wouldn’t have known about the name change

The food was really good. I had the Nachos Texacano and chili relleno with sausage. The grilled meat had a good flavor. The chili was the best thing though. The indoor decorations are very colorful. The staff all seemed nice.

Today my wife and some family members came to celebrate my baby’s first year. Turns out they had a rude waitress that obviously didn’t feel like working. Handing the plates of food to one person so they can hand them out for themselves and can’t seem to kindly ask someone to wait for refills. Over all food was good and the restaurant itself looks great for its size. Goodluck not getting that same waitress
