El Charro is the traditional horseman from Mexico who participates in the charreada, or Mexican rodeo. Charros are experts in horsemanship, rope tricks, bull riding and steer roping. One of the most recognized symbols of Mexico is associated with the charro – his tightly tailored suit and vest, adorned with embroidery and silver buttons, worn with a soft tie and wide brimmed sombrero. Mexico’s history and complexity are captured in this time-honored suit that represents the nation’s passion for ritual, custom and tradition. When we started our restaurant in 2001, we wanted a name that captured the heritage of Mexico as well as the cowboy history of Livermore. El Charro is a perfect symbolic reflection of both worlds.

I love the atmosphere here. Endless decor to admire. The staff is always friendly and this is a rare restaurant where I’m checked on and asked how my food is. The tequila menu is impressive and last time I went I had the Cadillac margarita. It was delivered with a generous shot of Grand Marnier on the side. Taco salad was fresh, as were the chips and salsa. This is a great spot for a date or for the family 🙂

Our favorite Mexican food in the Tri-Vallley. Solid beans and rice. Good fajitas. Nice tequila selection. Very friendly staff and owners. Awesome for groups or to sit and the bar with a margarita made how you like it and watch the game.

Very disappointed with my meal. Had the beef milanesa and it tasted Italian like with a light tomato sauce…definitely not the Mexican I came for. Will avoid this place in the future. They were more interested in bar time than cooking and it showed.

Love, love loooove this place! The food is very authentic, specially the green Salsa they have plenty of vegetarian dishes and MEZCAL! Mr. Erick was so helpful and attentive. Word of advise if you are planning dinner/or after work meeting with friends at this place get there early ( like around 4pm) Friday’s and Saturday’s; since the patio gets full quickly and they have just a few tables and it’s quite cozy .

Bland food. The enchiladas at El Charro were a blob of meat red sauce with no taste. No flavor! No onions, no cheese, no cut up lettuce or tomatoes! A bunch of rice and beans on the side also with no flavor! It was definitely not worth the 20.00 it cost me! Worst enchiladas I’ve ever had! Go elsewhere if you are craving Mexican food!!!!
