Food is always great. It’s one of my favorite places to eat. The oldest Mexican restaurant in SC. Love the rock style outside. There is outside dining. David, who is a chef owner, etc, always greets and manages to speak to the customers. I never can eat all my food. Great guacamole. L

Hey there, amigos! Get ready for a fiesta of flavors as we dive into the vibrant world of El Matador Mexican Restaurant in Taylors, SC. I’m your friendly helper, DAD, and today I’m putting on my hat and bringing you a review that’s as corny as it is flavorful.

It’s the oldest and finest restaurant of its kind and is ran as a business should. Staff food and atmosphere is on par with dining options inside and outside. The menu is full of great options for everyone.

Adorable little Mexican restaurant on Wade Hampton Blvd. Oldest Mexican restaurant in South Carolina! Fun decorations, attentive staff, food was good (not the best Mexican food I’ve ever had, but we really enjoyed the experience).

I’ve been in Taylors, SC for almost 10 years now and have passed this place literally a thousand times. Hmm, now I feel deprived. This is what I have searched for, good food, great ambience, friendly service, and even fair pricing. Oh, and right in my backyard. I love the venue; it’s authentic, quaint, warm and inviting with historical presence. It’s been there like before Taylors was Taylors…but the main thing you need to know is that the food was good. I had a chicken fundillio and was very satisfied with the crispy outside shell covered in cheese, with the inside loaded with tender chicken and more cheese. A side of rice and bean guacamole and salsa. See pics, we ate outside with the natural evening lighting(hence the dark pic) and there was nothing to do but enjoy myself and you should do the same! I will go back!

Mexican food doesn’t have to be gourmet, but it’s not hard to make a decent margarita. We have no comment about the food because when we ordered three “top shelf” margaritas it was apparent that the mix was probably lemon lime kool aid. We then ordered some bean dip, and our waiter said, “hold on I need to go make it”. It was at that moment we told the waiter, who was very charming and probably high, we had to leave. If you have ever had Mexican food outside of Taylor, SC, do yourself a favor and stay away.

Cozy place. Super friendly staff. The owner David even came and said hello. Was refreshing. Our server Sydney never let us run out of anything. Will be back

First and last time dining at this establishment. Building smelled old and musty, our booth had food remnants all over the seats and the floor. We ordered steak fajitas but 10 minutes later, our server stated that they were out of steak and substituted with chicken. Wait for the food was extensive, and when it arrived, it was disappointing. Chicken was obviously chicken strips from a packet and not freshly prepared chicken. Flavors were off and dull. This is a Mexican restaurant in name only and I would not recommend if you are looking for authentic Mexican food. The only positive note is that the staff was friendly.

Was given a gift card and decided to try the place out. Immediately upon walking in, it feels like home. They have a little lounge area with a TV and couches and the cutest little bar you can sit at. I ordered the “Mexican Pasta” and it was unbelievably good. They made the pasta fresh for me, AND since I had to wait (literally 10 mins) They gave us a free desert. Awesome food, awesome atmosphere awesome employees. Give this place a try!

The restaurant is decent. It’s in need of repair and some cleaning. Don’t look up, it’s kinda…showing its age. The food is good, prices fairly, and the service is nice. I hope this restaurant does an overhaul, it has a charm to it, I hope it sticks around.
