Went today for a friends birthday lunch. The wait on the food was about 25 mins. BUT so worth the wait. My green chicken pozole was awesome. Had purple hominy and the right amount of heat. The chicken was shredded and the soup consistency wasn’t watery, but a little thick…not too much…just right. Was very impressed. This is Mexican Cuisine, not your typical grub…very tasty. The decor of the restaurant is very nice also. Price on dishes is $$.

El Patio we have been going there for the 5 yrs or more. We went the again for Our Sis’ Birthday. There must of been an ownership change. The quality was not there and the service was extremely poor. Menu changed! They even knew it was our Sis’ birthday. Didn’t even acknowledge her special day. Its too Bad, we loved that place. Nothing else n El Monte or with that type of creativity,taste and quality around in the Valley not unless you go to Pasadena! We were very disappointed. We wont be going back. 🙁

I have been going to The Derby for many years, usually a couple times a year. While I like the atmosphere, the prices are increasing and the portions getting smaller. Most recently, I had there Cobb Salad, which looked like it was suppose to be a side salad. I believe I paid just under $17.00.

I had my wedding here…I love the place, the service, everyone there was so nice. The owners really nice people; they let me fix the inside patio as I wanted. Nothing but good comments from my invites… food DELICIOUS!!! reasonable prices.

Although we’ve been going to the Derby since the 60’s. I always go to the wall with the pictures of the jockeys and pictures of Ractrack winning horses. The cocktails come fast and furious! Service is excellent ad I can’t complain about any of surf & turf entrees, salads, and desserts. Just warm memories…

Heard about this place and it’s chicken green pozole. I ordered the chicken green pozole, man was I disappointed. The broth was very watery, they clearly just threw the pieces of chicken in towards the end. The chicken was NOT cooked through the entire process, leaving it bland and tasteless. They serve it in a huge bowl, but with very little chicken and hominy, you had to search to find any hominy. Not worth the price they charge for this very disappointing dish. I was hoping to find a good place for green pozole close to home, but I guess I have to continue to go back to Las Brisas De Apatzingan in Santa Ana, the best green pozole I had so far. It’s safe to say I won’t be returning to El Patio.

We have loved the food, the great service so we would always come back. But on our recent visit we waited for 45 minutes and didnt see the waiter nor did anyone come to take our order. The service was bad so we will not be visiting el patio anymore.
