I really wanted to like this place. The business strategy is simple, but I cannot recommend this place. The chicken and tri-tip are overcooked. Of the two, the tri-tip is better, but I still would not recommend either. One of the most frustrating parts of the experience is that the salsa is way too watery. I find myself draining the water from the salsa before using it. If you do not, you will find a watery mess under anywhere you are eating a taco or burrito. The rice and beans are ok, but are not that notable.

The place may look a bit too old fashioned and stale but the food is amazing, possibly the best Mexican Grill in Oxnard. If you’re ever thinking I don’t want “Pollo Loco”, go here instead. You won’t regret it.

On 7/11/2023 my family stopped by to buy a total 3 family packs. 2 on the far right table and 1 on the far left table. One of the staff got upset because my uncle asked for extra free grilled Chiles. We purchased around $200 of chicken and all we got was 9 total grilled Chiles. They wanted us to purchase more grilled Chiles. That was a mistake. We will not be returning to any Pollo Norteños. We will rather drive to Santa Barbara and go to Santa Barbara Chicken Ranch. There your meals come with Beans and rice and unlimited salsa bar.

Wasn’t too happy when I got home and found my burrito soggy & wet, normally I have no complaints at all in the 30 years I have been going here never once has this happened, but! The taste was still amazing even if I had to eat it with a fork. Gave it a 3 star for the taste definitely not the presentation.

The best restaurant ever with taste. I personally turned to eating less meat but if I had a choice to go anywhere to eat tri-tip and chicken, it would be this place without a doubt I was so sad when I saw their other location close down because this is one of those restaurants A lot of people don’t really know about, yet they have been around for so many years.

The best grilled chicken and tri tip plate in the 805! This place never disappoints. The grilled chicken is fresh to order and the tri tip is served with au jus! The salsa is made fresh daily and the frijoles de la Hoya are just like my mama makes them, simply awesome. Two people can eat for about $22 and it’s definitely worth the stop in.
