Very friendly staff and delicious food with an unassuming storefront. This is a hidden gem of St. Louis. Skip the wait at Sunny’s and come here as the food is much better without all the noise. Free chips and fresh salsa. The margarita pitcher will get you about 7 or 8 drinks. The chicken or steak fajitas are very good with quality ingredients and portions that allow for a follow up meal. Choriqueso is solid. Beans and rice are good. Everything is good here. Quit reading about it and go already.

The food was very good and the service was good too. The owner himself took care of us. When he made the marguitas, there was a little left, so when the drinks were somewhat drank, he came over and topped them off! It’s a little difficult to find as it sits back off the road. There’s also a Mexican market in the small plaza.

First time here this afternoon. The salsa and chips are delicious, the salsa is flavorful and just the right amount of heat; the chips are a perfect thickness and very crispy. I had carne asada tacos, they were great – reminded me of tacos in San Diego. Great margaritas too. Excellent service as well. Will definitely be back!

El Potro is less than five minutes from my mom’s house, so we thought we’d give it a try one day last month. We loved it and have been going back there ever since! The staff always greet me warmly and make me feel like family. I have only done to-go orders, and they’ve always been correct and HOT! The portion sizes are great and the food tastes great! I love how they actually put a great amount of meat in the fajitas, when most Mexican restaurants skimp you. But, the main reason I return (besides the food) is because of how much you can tell that they care about their customers. The food has been ready in 15 minutes every time I order except once. That one time they were super apologetic, had it to me just five minutes late, AND while I waited they poured me a free glass of horchata! You could tell they really valued that their customers have a good experience in their restaurant. Always happy to recommend El Potro!

I’m giving it a four because the salsa was so good and spicy and the torta al pastor was so good, the bread tasted homemade and everything seemed fresh. Looses one star only because their gorditas were just meat on homemade tortillas. Fast staff and nice atmosphere. Margaritas made to order

I stopped in on a whim and sat at the bar. The owner was very welcoming and explained a couple dishes I haven’t seen elsewhere. I went with the tlayudas and didn’t regret it – I hadn’t enjoyed Mexican food this much in a long time. It was clearly prepared with care and I look forward to trying more of the menu. The drinks look good, too – made fresh. I’m pretty sure this is our new go-to place when we feel like Mexican.
