El Rey has great tender asada which is different than anywhere else I’ve been. My favorite is the standard tacos, they do things their own way and don’t just have the same exact stuff you’ll find at any place – so the flavors are familiar but unique. Always very fast place to eat. No complaints!

El Rey Burritos has developed a pretty solid reputation in the DSM area. As I love burritos this was a natural fit eventually, and I’m happy to say the food itself was good and lived up to some fairly high expectations.

Literally the best steak burrito I’ve ever had. This is the bar that I hold all other burritos to and none compare. And I’ve had thousands of burritos. Seriously get the regular steak burritos. Or anything. It’s all good. But the burrito is great!

Every burrito I’ve had here was amazing. The chorizzo is fantastic. These are significantly better than the chain restaurants, and the restaurant is local.

My daughter gave me this recommendation; I had Chorizo and Egg’s, my grandmother had a Taco. Good food and good atmosphere. Nice conversation with the owner.

If you want authentic Mexican food fast eat in house. If you want it even faster, get it to go! They are on top of their game with the biggest burritos in town.

I eat cusine all over the country and sure I have not eaten at every establishment that sells a savory Mexican dish. I have ate here. The food is unique the service friendly. The EL- REY maybe one of the best burritos I’ve had the pleasure of eating. The chips are served with a delicious fruity and spicy salsa. The meal is always exceptional. The main meal is served with the added condiments of red or green sauce. Both sauces are not good they are GREAT. I don’t know why this place isn’t always on Des Moines Best of list. Because EL-REY Mexican food is one of the best.

Been a long time customer for years. Always get the regular burrito. But the price is now $11.99. Now, They are no longer “different” than any other mexican joint. But, even with increased price of food, I can get a burrito meal with beans and rice and an atmosphere anywhere. Too bad. Wont be back.

Hmmm. First timer, packed tiny space and it was stiflingly warm. Prices higher than I expected, but I didn’t mind as this is a small family business. Service was immediate and super fast for such a busy place. The food was good, but not great. For all the raving reviews I expected better, food was just ok for me.
