Overall the food was pretty good. I didn’t care for the salsa being warm temperature wise, but that’s just my opinion. Service was good and my server was nice and prompt. I was sad to watch how many employees played with their phones instead of helping guests. I watched the hostess totally ignore a family waiting to be sat while she played some game on her phone. I watched the bar tender and other severs constantly play with their phones as well. Once I asked for a napkin and was totally ignored by the person as they had headphones on and didn’t even hear or acknowledge me. I expect good service at restaurants where the guest care is more important than a cell phone. This resulted in a much lower score than what I would have given. Management should address the phones. Even now as I’m writing this 5 employees are on their phones while I’m sitting here waiting for a check….not good service.

El Zunzun is a really fun place to try in Birmingham. My dining partner and I enjoyed an array of dishes. The steak served over grilled cactus was quite good. We also enjoyed the mole trio. My only complaint is that the prices are rather high. I do recommend familiarizing yourself with the menu prior to dining, as it is a lot to take in.

It’s white people Mexican food. I did enjoy that they give you two kinds of salsa with your chips. But They wanted eight bucks for the queso which was not worth it after trying it. I got the fajitas and you could tell the chicken was from a premade frozen bag. I’ll save the Margaritas were tasty but for 10 bucks a pop they were on the small side. If they had a happy hour I would be okay with going back. Otherwise I would pass and go to habaneros in Trussville.

I went with friends to El Zun Zun and was not impressed. The food was not great. I didn’t care for the salsa options. The chicken quesadilla I got was probably the worst I have ever had. We were seated at 11:05 and was finally able to flag down our server to order at 11:45. He was in such a hurry the few times he came by that we could hardly understand him. This is not a place I would return to.

We came to celebrate a birthday with family. We tried a number of different items. I loved the desserts… everything was really good and homemade… the only thing I was not really in love with was the “warm salsa.” I guess maybe it’s like warm tap beer you can get in the UK, but I prefer cold, refreshing salsa.

Birthday dinner was perfect, because they don’t come and annoy you with singing. They did, however, give me a free AMAZING churro.

Awesone experience. Food was great. Everything was so fresh and full of flavor. Best Mexican resturant in town so far that we’ve tried. Staff was very friendly too. Pictured are the Fajitas and a Taco Salad.
