It’s not often you walk into an establishment and immediately feel like you’ve walked back in time. The smells of home cooked food immediately transferred me back to my great grandmother’s kitchen. Old school music playing over the intercom and soul food like greens, black eyed peas, liver and onions smothered in gravy and neck bones gave me just what I was craving! I was greeted with a very pleasant smile and that pleasantness continued on through the full experience. The food was served hot, fresh and delicious! If you’re ever in the mood for a great plate of comfort food stop on by Exit 40 Cafe!!

The best soul food place on the east side. I had the liver and onions with collards and yams everything was delicious. The owner was very friendly and funny.The atmosphere is very pleasant and clean with a great aroma of home cooked foods.

Ordered turkey wing plate on my 1st visit and it was horrible. Turkey wings were not tender at all, very tough and undercooked. Went back 2nd time to give another chance. Ordered a piece of cake this time. When checking out I told the cashier about my 1st experience, and how the turkey wings were tough. She apologized for the unsatisfactory food and called the owner up front and let him know about my 1st visit. Needless to say, he was extremely rude, very unapologetic. I didn’t even buy the cake. I left and never went back again. If I’m not mistaken they are permanently closed. Bad businesses never last long.
