Great execution of the steak fries, they are crispy and hot to the touch. On the other hand, the double 1/2 pound cheeseburger was so gross, the pancakes were same quality as dare-ree-land, and the skillet was too dog gone salty for anyone with taste buds. Oh and the coffee was so bad it not only tasted stale but was warm at best. I would return to order the steak fries and that’s it. There is more, like the speed of the service, but I will stop here, since they looked way understaffed and two employees can only do so much.

Love this old time diner. Nostalgic restaurant preserved for hopefully future generations. So much original diner equipment and atmosphere A great find!

Will definitely be back. Food was great, big portions, friendly service, nice coffee, multiple hot sauce options. We got skillets and cinnamon rolls. Looking forward to trying other menu items as well.

I’ve eaten here many times, usually ordering the Willabys omelet or the blueberry pancake, sometimes just the eggs, bacon and home fries. It’s a good place. It’s not another wannabe chi chi Madison restaurant. It simply delivers a solid old school breakfast. It’s tasty and most importantly more affordable than any other breakfast in Madison. I’ll always support Kris and crew.

I ordered the Denver Skillet with cheese. It was way over cooked. The eggs over medium were cooked too long and no longer had yoke. My french toast had an onion taste almost as if the grill was not cleaned or scraped between orders.

Food was quite good, reasonably priced, solid service. But me and my girlfriend found (4)! Hairs between our two meals. 1 in a cinnamon roll, 2 in my eggs, 1 in hers. I have never left a review before but had to for this. Pretty unacceptable. Cooks were Kris and Seppa.

There were only three tables sitting when we were there this morning, yet the waitress was very abrupt, and very forgetful. Didn’t ever bring us a water we asked for, or refills on coffee we requested when she dropped off the food (and bill right away) but she totally forgot that too, we never saw her again. We ate our breakfasts with nothing to drink. Had to search out someone else to get coffee 15 min. later. after we were pretty much done. Food was mediocre. We stopped here because it was the only place we found that wasn’t busy at all. Well, this is maybe why. Cute atmosphere though!

If you are looking for a ‘blast from the past’ dining experience then I highly recommend stopping in to the Fair Oaks Diner. The employees were friendly and helpful. The service was prompt and the food was hot. I was there for the breakfast hour and the food(eggs and sausage) were perfection. I really enjoyed sitting at the counter and seeing items from days gone by. From the wall hung dial telephone to the milk dispenser and milkshake machine to the Campbell soup display and the single serve cereal box display I languished in fond memories. The prices were more than fair and if I find myself in the area again I will make it a point to stop in.

IFL this place. My former breakfast joint closed, so this morning, I went searching and struck GOLD.
