With the name Fat Hen, you’d expect to find the menu dominated by fowl, but this place only serves the most mundane dishes you’d expect in an Italian restaurant. At 5pm, my date and I were the only customers and remained so for the hour plus we were there. The tableware were smeared and greasy, the walls were scored and marked up, and the overloud ambience music could have been assembled by a 17 year old in the year 1993.

Really nice place to eat. The octopus starter was good but the burrata crostini was a bit smoky. The gnocchi was very good and we liked the actual pasta a lot, the sauce on the pasta course was good but not great. Our favorite part of the meal was the entrees. The bass was excellent and was served over an awesome pea salad dish. The steak was also fabulous and came with these amazing fried potato gratin cube things, they were really awesome. We got two desserts, blackberry panna Cotta was not good. The actual panna cotta was bland and completely overwhelmed by a champagne topping. The white chocolate semifredo with strawberry gelato was incredible!!!! One of the best desserts I’ve had in a long time.

Overall the food was OK, beef tartar was good, pasta entrees were OK, but why I’m writing this review – the service was horrendous. We arrived on time for our reservation & seated quickly, our waitress asked us if we wanted water, then returned 15 min later asking for drinks, no water. And this is the start; plates were *no exaggeration* thrown on the table, almost dropped. I don’t expect Michelin star treatment, but i do expect to be treated like I’m a customer, rather than like I don’t exist. If I owned this business I would want to know that my employees are doing it a disservice.

I struggled with writing this review. I have worked in the industry for over 15 years and I know how reviews effect restaurants and staff. I want to start by saying the service was excellent. The plating was beautiful. The atmosphere is stylish and photogenic. The drinks were delicious. Unfortunately the food was a huge miss for us. The beet dish we ordered was so cumin heavy (an ingredient not listen on the menu and powerful even in small doses) that we couldn’t eat even half of it, and we both love beets and cumin. Both pasta dishes were way over cooked and water logged. I make fresh pasta at home, I have traveled in Italy, this is not a case of mistaken texture, the pasta was just way over cooked. One of the dishes was a mushroom pasta that was suppose to contain chanterelle and hen of the woods mushrooms, it was obvious that there were other types of mushrooms in there and not very clear if either of the aforementioned mushrooms were involved at all, it seemed unlikely. The sorbet we ordered was not a sorbet at all, it was more of a granita, completely different texture and experience. The nearly 60$ short rib entree was over cooked and dry with the most flavorless polenta, I can only explain it as being so flavorless it was sucking the flavor out of my mouth, like eating paper machete mash. To top it all off out of the 5 plates that came to our table 2 of them had visible dried food on them, dirty and not well washed. It was the kind of total failure food experience that makes it impossible to even say anything to the server. This meal cost over 250$ with tip. Very very disappointing for a restaurant rated so highly on this platform. As with any experience of this kind I want to believe it was an off night but I felt the need to warn off fellow food lovers who would have noticed these issues and been equally bamboozled by the reviews.

What an absolute neighborhood gem. Wonderful space/ambience. Staff is over the top with courtesy and knowledge. Food was timed perfectly despite being there on a Saturday at peak time. The kitchen had it all under control and the servers made sure everything got where it was going on time. Speaking of the food…WOW….such a unique menu and very blatantly designed by a chef with years of education and experience. Each dish was a combination of opposing flavors which came together to create a perfect harmony. You don’t create these type of dishes by chance…there is some serious skill in the kitchen at Fat Hen. Wine list was superb, signature cocktails looked amazing but the wine list honestly spoke to clearly to my heart that I had to opt for a paired four course dinner. I was not disappointed. Rib eye and the scallop crudo stood out, but it was all simply decadent. 10/10 will be back.

Amazing restaurant! We came for our 10 year Anniversary and it did not disappoint! We got 4 appetizers and I kid you not they were all home runs. The entrees we got were also amazing. A must must try spot in the area. Highly recommend!

The bolognese sauce was tasty but the pasta was mushy and the broccolini and carrot sides were undercooked. For the price, the service and food were not worth it.

Service dropped off significantly on our recent visit. While the food is very good, on our most recent visit the waitress “forgot” to put in the order for an entree. Service was very slow overall. Hopefully this was a one-off bad service night. Will give it another try and hope the service is where it was.
