The Scorpion Roll is to die for! It was delicious and fresh. I barely had a chance to take a picture, it was too good to wait.

The food was amazing as always but I felt like I was in a sushi Hooters…. cheeky shorts and tiny shirts. (In not a pride but what happened to class) Our waitress was in a big hurry to get us out, it seemed. I dropped over $100 in less an hour and felt rushed the whole time. If I wanted fast food I would’ve went to Burger King. Won’t be returning any time soon. The only reason my review was this high is because the sushi is amazing!

Used to love going here but one experience changed that… we were eating tonight when our Captain Crunch roll had plastic on the pieces of crab. They were able to remove the roll from the bill but unfortunately that doesn’t change the fact of us ingesting some plastic. While this may be completely harmless, it may also be harmful. Be careful what you eat and understand that things like this do happen so be cautious!

I haven’t eaten at Formosa for a few years, but decided to stop in. It was a nice experience and I plan on going back for their specials and happy hours.

I like that this Sushi place is located in the downtown area. I prefer carry out and choosing a nice spot downtown to eat because their place is usually packed and service is slow. Their sushi rolls are good to share. Popular items are in red on their menu, so they easily stand out. Personal favs: dragon, crunchy calamari, and caterpillar rolls. Now they have menu viewing and payment through QR code if you don’t like to wait.

From my first bite of the most expensive roll on the menu, I knew I had made a mistake going to Formosa. The roll was said to contain lobster and blue crab, salmon and eel. It may have but in no recognizable form. The filling was an orange mush with no flavor and no identifiable components. All wrapped in a soggy piece of nori and coated with mushy rice resembling thick gruel. It was absolutely disgusting. The spicy lobster roll was equally inedible. The yellowtail, and salmon roe nigiri was tasteless, mushy, and not at all fresh. This was not only my worst experience at a sushi restaurant, but my worst experience in any restaurant in my 72 years. Seriously, and without hyperbole, HyVee has better sushi.

On par with the better places in downtown Chicago. Generous cuts of fish on the nigiri and the signature rolls are full of flavors without being overwhelming.
