Super friendly owners/staff and amazing food! The size of the wings was impressive, the calamari seemed unending, the sticky fried rice had an abundance of flavor and ingredients, and the pea vine was really tender! The taste of their aromatic house tea really came through in the mandarin breeze cocktail. Oh, and they also have a dangerously yummy lemon drop shot that is a must try! We’ll be back soon for sure, thank you Gan Bei for making it such a wonderful and memorable experience =)

Gan Bei is one of my favorite bar/food spots for mid-tier ($$) Cantonese food in the ID. Location is on the smaller side about 7 tables with two that can fit 4+ ppl in addition to counter spots at the bar. Its normally not too crowded if you get there before 6 or 7pm or quickly after a stadium event. My favs are the spicy wonton in chili oil (not pictured) and the mandarin breeze cocktail (a nice black tea, fruity/floral drink that’s not too sweet).

There is no doubt in my mind: Gan Bei has the best fried chicken in all of Seattle. If you want the best piece of juicy, moist chicken with a delightfully crunchy skin packed with insane amounts of flavor, don’t hesitate to come here. The fried smelts and the actual fried rice are good here too but the fried chicken is the star. Definitely come here.

Definitely hidden gem! Short menu but I trust they focus on doing everything really well! I ordered the freshwater eel claypot rice and the hand shredded chicken. Very authentic cooking (I’m from Canton). you can find the crispy rice layer at the bottom of the pot – best part of the rice! The ingredients are fresh and premium. Not any ordinary chicken but the free range ones to bring out the texture and the flavor. Highly recommend and I’ll come back!

The number one thing that you should know is that I caught the waiter raising the price of the items on our check a dollar more each than what they were listed for on the menu. This is already an expensive place considering the quality of the food, which I have to say is quite lacking. I can’t believe this place even has a 4.6 star rating. The beef brisket was hard to chew and had very little flavor. The clay pot is mostly rice very small sausage chopped up on top. Speaking of rice when I asked how much extra it would be for rice (with the brisket) I was told completely a different price by the same guy who proceeded to charge me five times what he told me it would be. The wonton soup was all right I suppose. As for the service the waiter was kind of rude, he did that thing some servers do where their a lot nicer when they know you’re about to pay… I hate that especially having been a former server back in the day. He rarely checked the table, it took forever for our food to come out. Meanwhile he’s sitting at a table across from us enjoying his own food, in plain sight. This place is terrible I’ll never go back! There’s no need for excuses such as being understaffed, you overcharged me and you know you overcharged me. If you’re under staffed hire more people, If you want to raise the prices update your menu, you might want to raise the quality of your food too considering what you’re charging. These are common sense things, such as don’t eat in front of customers who are waiting for their food when you are their waiter.

This is a hidden gem! We loved everything we ordered. It’s well seasoned, cooked to perfection food. Very comforting with a homey feel. Would love to try the eel clay pot next time.

Super friendly staff and excellent service. We loved two dishes recommended by the hostness. Eel clay pot was awesome; rich flavor from the eel and Chinese sausage. The rice around the clay pot was perfectly prepared, crunchy and not burnt like most of other restaurant. We really enjoyed the garlic shredded chicken. It is was a twist on the traditional Chinese favorite poached chicken…the best part is there is no bone! The pan fried shrimp rice roll was amazing, crunchy on the outside and soft silky inside.

Both the food and the drinks are delicious. Not over priced and the food portions were huge! My favorite part of this place was the chili sauce. They had 2 different kinds and they were both pretty tasty.

The food tasted very good, especially the eel claypot was worth trying out. But the restaurant dining experience was not really good as the room smelled musty.
