Visiting my daughter at VT. This is a family owned restaurant. Food is great, services was friendly. Love the Spanish Frittata.

Great place to eat breakfast with family and friends! We’ve eaten here a number of times when visiting Blacksburg and have enjoyed it every time. The mix of flavors and options both taste great and present well too. Note that the menu does not contain meat, but that’s never bothered us even though we’re regular breakfast meat eaters. The atmosphere is very relaxed, always busy – a little loud if that matters to you. Overall, a great spot to eat and enjoy time together.

I mean no insult when I describe this delightful restaurant as a kind of hippie diner. Its menu includes many diner favorites. However, it offers gluten free, vegetarian, & vegan options! This is wonderful for my husband and me, since we have different food allergies

Our group of four and a baby went here for breakfast/lunch on a late Sunday morning, around 11 am. They were extremely busy with about a 25 minute wait. Since we weren’t allowed to wait inside, we ventured over to nearby Squires Student center to stay warm on this freezing March day. Once seated, we were still pretty chilly as our table was right by the door, allowing the cold wind to blow right in. Our server was friendly and attentive. We had the Chappy’s Choice and Gillies Special entrees with a side of a stack of pancakes. The food came out piping hot and very good. The biscuits were a bit cold, though. And, the coffee could have been a bit warmer. Overall, a good experience and we’ll be back.

Amazing vegan options! The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about what is vegan friendly and how to modify things. The food goes beyond typical uses of tofu and gets so creative! My “chicken” tofu tasted just like the real thing, and I was in love with the peanut tofu wrap.

Good place, waffles were good. Tables were kinda close together, not a big deal though. My friend said the potatoes were too salty but I thought they were great. I asked for Tabasco and they brought me Tapatio… which is still delicious, so I didn’t think it was worth complaining about. Bathroom is unpleasant and could use some love. I don’t want to be a jerk or anything but honestly I think this establishment could benefit from adding some meat items on the menu. Yeah I know it’s a vegetarian place but at 11AM on a Sunday every breakfast place in town is slammed, this was the place we found where we could get a table reasonably quickly. Maybe Beyond/Impossible meat products could be sold? I was really craving sausage and totally would have bought fake sausage had it been presented to me.

It was the first home game day so they were busy, but the hostess was curt and when we did get seated she pointed to our table and we weren’t given any menus for about 5 minutes. I was sad to hear they were out of biscuits so I ordered pancakes. Hands down the driest and hardest pancakes I’ve had in my time on earth. Butter and syrup couldn’t help them. So bad. I would have sent them back and allowed them the chance to make them palatable but they didn’t come check after food delivery if everything was okay. My partner had a delicious omelet with potatoes and toast and was in seventh Heaven. Cute place, I’d try it again but avoid the pancakes.

Listen, I won’t lie to you. I worked here for three years. That said, I still think that the Tofu Reuben is one of the most genius sandwiches ever. I love a damn sandwich so the fact they were able to create a unique take on a classic still rules. Most people talk about their baller brunch but homie go to lunch. I think it is above and beyond!

I will miss you Gillie’s. Morning Mamosas, vegan breakfast burritos, oh god those potatoes too, I would go back to Blacksburg just for Gillie’s. The wait time isn’t always the best, do try and go early if you can. The food is incredible, the staff is spectacular, and the prices are more than fair. If you are new to the area or just visiting, eat at Gillie’s.
