Old school Chicago restaurant-come hungry in your stretchy pants because the portions are large at a reasonable price. This place has been around for many years and has probably never been remodeled but that is part of its charm. The wait staff are friendly and have great personalities. You feel like you are a guest in their homes. It was not busy when we arrive at 5:00 p.m. but soon filled up.

This is our absolute FAVORITE steakhouse in the Chicago area. It has loyal local customer base and has an old school laid back vibe. The French Onion soup is to die for. The dinner salads come on chilled plates and the steaks are perfection. The two chefs amazingly move around one another in a tiny open kitchen to whip up their magic in the back corner of the dining room. They have something for everyone on the menu offering chicken, steak, seafood, pork chops and burgers. The service is stellar, thanks Heather! We’ve been coming here for years and have never been disappointed.

We arrived at Golden Steer without a reservation and were promptly seated at a nice quiet table. Warm bread and butter was a nice welcome as we viewed the menu. The four of us each ordered a full slabs of ribs that were extremely tender and full of flavor. The baked onion soup, salad and twice baked potato was a perfect accompaniment. Melted cheese on the soup looked and tasted great. Server was helpful and very attentive. Always a reliable, great meal.

It has a great atmosphere and is warm and welcoming, yet the premise is an old-school steakhouse. A true definition of hospitality, expect friendly and excellent service. Will undoubtedly return repeatedly. There was no wait; guests were seated right away, and bread and table service soon followed. The food was excellent, with steaks cooked to perfection and sides that were both fresh and generously sized. Highly recommended.

Great old steakhouse. It’s where I would recommend if you want an old school experience. Liver and onions, fried smelt, butt steak. Go back in time and enjoy dishes that are classic and delicious and you won’t find at a newer more hip place. Prices are great too.

This old-school steak joint was established in 1969. Their prices are like double than shown online, but the entire experience was worth it. The food and service were great. French Onion Soup, Salad, Bleu Cheese Burger, BBQ Ribs, Chicken, Cheesecake… everything was on point. I would return and vouch for the spot.

Our server was fast to take our drink orders and our food. Everything brought from the soup, salad and main course was delicious. The prices are high so be ready to pay but the taste of the steak is worth the price. Unless it’s a special day I won’t be going back to pricy for me

I had never been here before. I was pleasantly surprised. I love these old school family owned steakhouses. Wish there was more. Our waitress Sharon was super friendly, attentive, and provided awesome service. The food was all cooked to perfection. All in all delicious and can’t wait to go back again!
