The Grey Moss Inn has been a beloved staple of the Grey Forest community since the 1920s, evolving with each owner throughout the years. In 2020, after operating for more than 9 decades, the restaurant was forced to shut its doors. Now, the mantle of the Grey Moss Inn has been taken up by sisters Martha Valadez and Marisol Mendoza, who are proud to continue the legacy with a brand-new menu.
Rustic, romantic spot from 1929 with steaks, seafood, a long wine list, patio dining & scenic views. Based on 345 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.3 stars. Price $$

Checked out the new cuisine at Grey Moss. Great authentic food. All food was good and service on point. The outdoor patio will be nice soon. We will be back for other picks on the 7 page menu.

Express’s Mike Sutter’s review is right. You are paying for the atmosphere. The restaurant has been redecorated nicely, and when the weather cools, the outside dining will be perfect. However, the food is not impressive. The Mary Howell Margarita was oppressively sweet. Pass on it. The chips were good, but the Mole was average. Like Sutter said, I had better versions of Grey Moss’s Tex-Mex food at less expensive restaurants. If you going to be a Tex-Mex restaurant, you better have spectacular food at these prices. If it could be like Austin’s Fonda San Miguel, it would be worth the premium in cost, but this food is average. Try this place to revisit it, but you should spend your money and eat at a cheaper and better Tex-Mex restaurant. Everyone in our party shared my same sentiment. Sorry, this restaurant is a big miss for food.

We enjoyed the food here. I had the Chili Relleno which was packed with picadilo and potatoes. My husband had the chicken flautas which were rolled in tasty corn tortillas. Both came with Spanish rice and mine also came with refried beans. My husband’s beer was nice and cold my tea was okay, overall a tasty meal. The server was really good he made sure we were doing well without being intrusive. Food came out quickly and hot. Then we ventured out to the patio where a duo was playing and I must say they were fantastic. Come take a drive through beautiful Scenic Loop and have a good meal, we will certainly be back!

We used to come to Grey Moss Inn often prior to Covid. So much so our family often gifted each other gift cards to have family dinner at this establishment. We recently decided to come back and use one of our gift cards (we have about 400$ worth in total). We were told that we could use the gift cards over the phone, at the front desk, and at our table prior to eating. The food was not good and definitely was better before the renovation (I will say our waitress was amazing though). Guac and the different salsas were great, however, the chicken tasted like frozen Tyson chicken strips. Overall, the food was definitely lacking in flavor. In addition to this, the atmosphere was great but not enough to make up for the food. When we left, my daughter came out of the bathroom to meet us at the car and was chased by the owner. The owner informed us they couldn’t honor them (which was not what we were told) and then said that they “guess they would take the loss”. At the end of the day we lost 300$ in total since now we apparently can’t use the gift cards although nothing on it says we can’t (and originally we were informed we could). So therefore, if anyone is taking a loss it is us not them. Its sad to see such an amazing restaurant now serve mid expensive food with an owner who will give customers a hard time over their own mistakes. We will not be returning to this restaurant and recommend any of the hundreds of Mexican restaurants in SA besides this one.

We visited Grey Moss in for a girl’s night out, and it was lovely! The restaurant is beautiful– it was my first time visiting, and I was impressed by how welcoming and elegant everything felt. I am looking forward to trying their courtyard seating soon, it’s truly a magical setting! The strings of lights underneath the old oaks is spectacular, and they even had live music playing when we arrived. Our server was kind and attentive, and she made sure we were well taken care of throughout our stay. The salsa was delicious, and the chips tasted house made. I ordered the shrimp tacos, and the shrimp was grilled perfectly– juicy and delicious! The tacos were made with very fresh ingredients, which definitely elevated them to being top notch. We enjoyed our evening greatly, I would gladly return!

Beautiful location!! The food and drinks were also good but the location stands out more for its history and architecture.

First time here after the remake. I like the new atmosphere and decor. Food was actually good. Service was attentive although kind of young. Would like to see a little bit of expanded menu and drinks in the future. However, would still prefer the old Grey Moss Inn!

It’s literally one of the best places in San Antonio to eat. Excellent food, amazing service, and the atmosphere is perfect. I haven’t eaten anything that isn’t amazing, the menu has a wide selection and everything is good, reasonably priced also – start off with happy hour and then role into dinner. Will be coming back!
