Grits and groceries is one of my favorite restaurants in South Carolina, but yesterday’s visit fell short of the usual standards. I think the waitress was having a bad day or something, or maybe she wasn’t as attentive to my teen children and I because it was just the three of us. She came to refill our drinks once, and after that it was a very long wait to get the check and try to order to go desserts for later. About thirty minutes. Had she been more attentive, I wouldn’t have to write this review and caution diners because I would have been able to tell her and hopefully the owners could have remedied the problem and been more careful in the future. There was plastic wrap in my food. It was in my mouth and I couldn’t chew it and spat it out. When I checked the rest of my food I found more. It was a decent amount, so I’m not entirely sure how it was missed. By the time she came back with our check I didn’t bother telling her because I was honestly over the experience and ready to leave. We paid $80 to chew plastic wrap and to be largely ignored after refilling our drinks. The to go desserts were ok. Don’t order the lemon drop pound cake and expect to taste lemon. It’s a nice vanilla pound cake dusted with sugar. The portions are good, but the flavor leaves something to be desired. If we decide to drive four hours round trip to eat there again it’ll be sometime in the distant future. I could have forgiven the plastic wrap in my food, but ignoring me and my children for no apparent reason other than being one of the smallest tables sat just didn’t sit well with me. I’ve been a waitress for 15 years and you just don’t do that sort of thing to customers. Very off putting.

This place could be great and be making piles of money if..u allways have 2 deep fryers, never mix fish, in chicken and fry, fryers and allways keep oil changed. If u going have home frys,,bkanch, blanch,to be a perfect homemade fry..hamburgers are allsome but frys kill the plate…and if only they have nightly cooking and drinking in that location be great to..The people are a 10..GREAT

Gently pan fried trout, chicken laden black bean and corn soup, perfect praline bacon, and the best pecan pie I’ve ever had – still warm out of the oven. I wish I could give it 6 stars.

I need to go back! This was my first time, despite living in the area for years. Grabbed a BBQ sandwich, which was tasty, but not mind blowing and the bun was burnt instead of toasted. However, the staff was great, and the beingets were awesome! I will be back to try again!

My husband had to go to a job in Greenwood. He ask if I wanted to go and we’ll eat lunch at “Grits & Groceries” and we did. The people were very friendly. We live in the Earl’s Grove Community of Westminster,SC. It was well worth the drive. The food was great. We’ll be going back.

I’ve been to Grits & Groceries numerous times without fail of a great meal. Be prepared for a wait, but it’s worth it. The first picture is of the shrimp and grits at lunchtime. Absolutely delicious. The praline bacon is thick cut with just enough sweetness. I’d give this restaurant two thumbs up, but I do think it is overpriced for the location.

It’s really hard to review this place because it’s so diverse. One week has different food the next so it’s hard to tell but I guess I just came on a bad week as a food was good just not Great. I’ll have to come on a different week to see if their food is better and until then I will keep my score but I will revise it in the future.

Wish they open more days and hours. Very good food and friendly staff. If you ignore the cars from the guests, you would swear you were in a 1950s farm neighborhood, warm, friendly, relaxed.
