I was very excited to have authentic Mexican food/tacos. So when I seen they put a $1 taco Tuesday deal I decided to go as a great opportunity to try them out! I kid you not that it’s so weird and big coincidence of what happened to me! Last Tuesday was the first time we tried it out, ordered by phone, 6 al pastor, 5 chicken and 3 chorizo. When I got home and I started to open them up I noticed that I was missing 1 chicken taco. I was upset because I payed for it but I was not going to drive over for one $1 taco. Chorizo wasn’t that good but chicken and al pastor were decent. Only thing not sure if it’s because they are 1 dollar some didn’t have enough meat. So I decide to order again today and guess what? I was missing a chicken taco again! Like how crazy is that!? Also this time I noticed the chicken from last week was more of pieces of chicken breast and this time it looked more like ground chicken. Chicken wasn’t good this time.

Was excited to try this place out and enjoy some good Mexican food. Came in and it was spotless, I enjoyed that there were lots of menu options and not just tacos and burritos. I decided to try the carne asada burrito to see the quality of their food. Food took less than 5 minutes to come out, great. The burrito was served with radish slices, grilled jalapeño, and grilled onion. I was excited to see the grilled sides and grabbed them to add to my burrito but despite looking freshly grilled they were stone cold, huge disappointment. I tried my burrito and was met with only more disappointment. For a place claiming to serve authentic Mexican food it was a major let down. First bite in and I immediately noticed the beans and rice lacked any flavor. The beans needed seasoning and the rice barely had any color to it which meant it was also lacking seasoning. Go to any really authentic Mexican restaurant and you’ll see that beans are meant to have color, that signifies they’re full of flavor. Sadly the carne asada meat didn’t impress me either. It was hard and tough to chew, clearly over cooked. If you’re looking for good, authentic Mexican food this just isn’t it.

We love the shrimp red tacos and birria quesadilla or tacos, this is basically all we ever order. The carnitas is really good, the chicken was just ok.

Their red tacos with the consomme dip are delicious. If you don’t like spicy foods, watch out for the pickled onions, lol, oh so good!

Food is great, second time here. Took one star off, as I observed the employee clean the floor, then handle the food. He washed them after handling someone else’s cash, but not that after cleaning floor (?) Was put off, threw the food away. I’m sure it was as good as the first visit. Hopefully owner addresses these issues.

I’ve been in LaVerne 20+ yrs and have never been as impressed with such delicious Mexican food! The handmade tortillas, the freshness of all the food and with the traditional birria broth! Guanatos Tacos is a must visit for lunch or dinner! Try the Red Tacos! You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!
