Best dang chicken ever! The beans and okra are good, slaw is delish, and the people are great. 10/10 would recommend to my friends.

This is the ORIGINAL Gus’s Chicken and it didn’t disappoint!!! It has an “old time” atmosphere (nothing elegant about the look of the place), but it’s CLEAN and feels like you’re going back in time!! The chicken was FANTASTIC and the service was GREAT!! One thing I love about this particular location in Mason is the fact that you’re in a little town and it feels like you know everyone in the restaurant!! Everyone (customers included) acts like they’re friends with everyone!! The food is cooked after you order, so there’s a little wait time; but it’s well worth the wait because you’re getting fresh food made just for you!!!

This is my take on the Original Gus’s. They should do better. The exterior signage is minimal and smells of used Old Grease. Has a rotten garbage smell in the lot. The potato salad was not it. The chicken smelled like outside had came in. And the macaroni was bland. I have a great sense of taste and smell but will take the franchise in Memphis Tn over the Original.

Pretty good for being out in the country. It’s kind of thrown together (a lot of the chairs seem straight out of a school) and definitely not the quality you’re going to find in the city but they were kind and made sure that I had what I needed for a reasonable price, which is all I really ask for. Also, the fries were surprisingly good, well cook and seasoned, much better than I’ve had at the Gus near Memphis. The chicken was about the same quality as you would expect.

It’s called the world’s famous chicken, just like everyone else says the same about their fried chicken.

4th or 5th time I’ve flown in to TN just for this chicken! Always on the lookout for someone who I can take – so I’ll have a reason to go again! Can get Gus’s in many other cities (I’ve gotten it in Memphis, Austin, Detroit and St. Louis) but nothing is as good as the original. You will simply not find a better piece of fried chicken….it really is that good. I dream about this chicken and I love it!!

The chicken was great, but the fried Okra may have been even better. Love the nostalgia factor too, even had a table of old men there solving all the world’s problems over lunch.

We generally go once a week. Last two weeks it has been Sunday, 2pm. Noticed a few changes, mini cups for vegetables, this has helped mac and cheese be creamier, and hotter. Fries have been fresher and hotter. But chicken was been slightly over cooked and dryer. Plus weekend cooks seem to put more hot spices, than weekday crew. I prefer less spice, in fact I would be okay with no spice. Still love the chicken.
