Walk into a Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, and you’ll find walls adorned with vintage and neon signs, beloved classics humming in the jukebox, tables covered in blue and red checkerboard, and plates full of some of the very best fried chicken you’ve ever tasted. Our chicken, prepared using a recipe developed over sixty years ago by the Bonner family, offers the confounding combination of perfectly crispy skin and wonderfully juicy and tender meat. Additionally, our spices offer a kick without ever overwhelming your senses. All plates are served with beans and coleslaw, but feel free to substitute those with any of our sides, all of which are prepared in house daily. And what meal isn’t complete without an ice-cold beer or a slice of pie.

The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the Fried Chicken. The chicken was perfectly cooked, with a crunchy and flavorful coating that was not greasy at all, but little bit salty for us.

First visit-chicken was very moist and delicious! I would agree with the other reviews that the “famous hot & spicy” needs a little more flavor kick. Our server, Lexie, was A+++, very pleasant and knew the flavors and menu offerings. She mentioned hot was around 4-5 on scale of to 10, and more like 2-3. Her service, engagement, and menu knowledge was outstanding!! Need more of her.

3.5/5 . I was expecting more flavor for a place named world famous and says they won best chicken of 2022. The chicken was good , moist and had a little bit of spice but needs more seasoning if you ask me. I liked how it came with a slice of breads the sides were small but good. I’ll definitely try again but I’m going to need more flavor if they want to be TOP 5 in the city

Was super thrilled when I learned Gus’s was coming to Louisville so I definitely couldn’t wait to try it and it did NOT let me down. Everything was amazing. From the coleslaw, to the Mac and cheese & of course, the fried chicken. This chicken has a nice spice to it, which I really love. I have found another go to restaurant in Louisville.

The Gus’s location (117 S Hurstbourne PKWY Louisville, KY 40222) is amazing! The food is fresh, delicious, and full of flavor! I am convinced it is prepared with LOVE! We also loved meeting the manager at this location, who’s name happens to be Gus as well! He always takes the time to ask everyone in the restaurant if they enjoyed the service and food, because he cares about the client’s experience, at his restaurant. We have dined there 5 times and this restaurant is definitely one that we will continue to visit! The waiters are amazing and really do a great, whether its crowded or not. They make you feel special and welcomed! We highly recommend this restaurant and give it 10+ stars. During our last visit (Friday, July 7, 2023) Gus surprised us with a complimentary slice of pie and ice cream! He makes us feel like one big family at his restaurant and we love it! ;o)

I wasn’t impressed. They don’t offer a mild chicken so the breading was a little hot for my tastes. It wasn’t scorching hot, it just has some cayenne pepper in the batter, so it probably isn’t hot enough for a serious enthusiast.

First time customer who doesn’t eat pork. I’m glad they do allow you to know what has pork in the dish. I ordered two piece dark with Mac n cheese and coleslaw. The Mac n cheese was horrible to me, taste like American sliced cheese with no seasoning. The coleslaw was good until I ran into plastic in my dish. I immediately lost my appetite. Even if food is served out of a packaging it’s best to check how you’re opening it to avoid pieces of plastic falling into the whole batch. Chicken is not spicy at all but skin of good yet looks crunchy but not crunchy.
