If you ever end up in Mt Sterling IL I highly recommend you check out Hagel 1891. I had the Carrot Fennell soup and am order of Walleye and it was fantastic. The soup was creamy with a hearty earthy flavor with a touch of carrot. The Walleye was light and sweet cooked perfectly and fresh. Service was exemplary. Kitchen was lightning fast. They were so fast that I wasn’t even ready to ear yet. Lol. The building is cool. 2 fans are run off a pulley system with a single motor. Bathroom was spotless and smelled Great which was a welcome relief to some bathrooms I’ve been in. If a restaurant cares about its restroom I guarantee the kitchen is pristine.

I know people from Springfield drive here for dinner so we decided to give it a try. Casual attire but fantastic food. We will definitely be back. Staff was friendly and professional.

Very good lunch today with a great atmosphere. It is a nice destination in historic Mount Stirling. I had the lunch special with Fish and chips. The lunch was very good and well done. They have historic furnishings in the restaurant with comfortable chairs. The bar is also very neat and looks historic also.

The food at Hagel 1891 is supremely prepared. Service is great, our waitress was very informative as to the selections and how things were prepared. Only part of our visit I didn’t care for was when the bottom of a drawer fell apart at the bar and the female bartender took a hammer and proceeding to pound it back together. After awhile of pounding and unable to converse with my husband at the table at all, I had to get up to see what was happening. There was the bartender, smile on her face fixing the problem. So we just decided to take our dessert home. lol…. gotta love small town technique.

Slower service if you’re not in a rush, but very friendly and a great atmosphere. Good but overpriced, and they seem to overcook a bit.

The cost of the food doesn’t align with the quality. I had ribs and brussel sprouts both of which were burnt. The bbq sauce wasnt very good either. The salad was really good through. Staff were very friendly.

The go-to place for fine dining in west central Illinois. Excellent food, great service, and a warm atmosphere. Just make sure to make reservations. It gets busy.
