I’ve always wanted to come to Hang Ah but it was closed whenever I showed up at odd hours for San Francisco Chinatown. Today we stayed at the local Hilton so we were there early for Jasmine Oolong tea and dim sum.

Hang Ah Tea Room brands itself as the oldest dim sum house in the USA. It probably gets a lot of tourist visits.

As a child, I was impressed with Hang Ah decor. As you entered the doorway, a beautiful Chinese rock garden (a single rock decorated with miniature Chinese figurines of China village life) faced you. It even had streams and rivers with water flowing. I just enjoyed looking at it. It was peaceful and pretty.

I highly recommend the dim sum combination b, mongolian beef, and the red bean steamed buns but we don’t recommend the pineapple fried rice. Service was friendly and I’m happy I found this recommendation online otherwise we likely wouldn’t have stumbled upon it. Worth checking out!

I love this place. My best friend and I used to come up to San Francisco every summer and come to eat here while we were in high school and college. The food is amazing. The one thing it lacks is probably not their fault. I remember dim sum used to be brought around to your table, and you would just choose what you wanted. Now we had to order our dim sum off a menu. I don’t know most of the names of the foods, so it was difficult to get the same items I ordered before. I’m sure that’s a change from the pandemic. It just makes me a bit sad because I was hoping for the nostalgia of when I was a kid. The food still stood up to how I remembered. It was so good to eat here after 30+ years away and still get the same wonderful food.

Do you ever wonder where is the first din sum restaurant in the USA well this restaurant claimed as the first dim sum restaurant open in 1920. The dumpling freshly prepared at the restaurant. Soupy dumpling and their salt and pepper pork chop were very tasty, the steamed pork ribs taste delicious and so was the. String bean. Pricewise they are affordable. also end or with mango pudding it’s very well balance. And it’s not too noisy for Chinatown restaurant.
