Just experienced an exquisite meal at Heartwood Restaurant at Independence Inn in Strafford, NH. Delicious drinks, a unique salad flight & perhaps the best haddock I’ve ever eaten. Dennis & Carol were wonderful hosts and our server very attentive to our every need. The chefs even stopped by our table to inquire of our experience and wanted open feedback. Definitely looking forward to our next trip back!

This is a hidden gem. The food is special, the drinks amazing, and the desserts were a finishing touch. The salad flights were a meal to them themselves. Dennis and Carol were gracious hosts. Our severer was super sweet and the chefs came by to chat and gain input. WE WILL BE BACK!!!

Lots of 5 star reviews that are from before 3 weeks ago when they decided to be counter service and not table. So, $200 brunch for 4 on and I had to wait on my family. I go out to eat to NOT wait on them. Food was unremarkable and lacked flavor except for the locally sourced maple sausage and the bourbon pepper bacon. Those were delicious! This restaurant has major potential so it was disappointing to have no table service. It’s a quaint, old inn that smells like hickory wood fire and it’s so cozy. Hopefully management will bring it back to a full service restaurant that makes people feel welcomed and relaxed.

How have we missed out on this place for so long? Dropped in for dinner from right up the road. Place was cute, with evening sun coming in the windows. Our server was lovely, and made us delicious cocktails. The entree preparations were not over the top or pretentious, instead they were well-executed and approachable. But importantly, they are a higher standard than most of what’s available in this area. We’re absolutely coming back for more great service, the fantastic “Honey, Honey” cocktails, and to work our way through more of the menu!

Service and food were outstanding. We had a great choice of plates and as a party of 4 we all ordered different items. All items were cooked to order and served in a timely manner. Give them a try. Excellent job with Resourcing NH grown and farm raised food. The use of NH spirits and beer was a plus to the whole evening. Prices were more than reasonable

Went here to celebrate our 15th anniversary. The head chef was incredibly accommodating for our very restrictive diet(gluten and dairy free, plus an allergy to root vegetables like onion and garlic) and made fresh food for us. They even were able to serve us a very special bottle of wine we picked up on our honeymoon.

I came to The Independence Inn for dinner on NYE. The service was impeccable, the food was cooked perfectly and the presentation really made me feel like a high roller. I also spent the night in one of the cozy rooms for the night and slept like a baby. Thanks for showing me a great time!
