Beer
10 Degrees (Czech Styler Lager) – Urban Roots
3.9% ABV – Czech Style served in a Czech style beer glass and from a traditional “side pull” tap handle for a truly authentic experience. This beer is brewed with 100% Czech grown Saaz hops and floor malted Bohemian Pilsner malt made just outside of Prague (thanks to Weyermann Specialty Malts) which lends it plenty of richness and complexity with a classic hop flavor and aroma.
$7.00
Astral Reflections (Hazy IPA) – Jester King Brewery
6.7% ABV – We’ve been fans of Celestial’s IPAs for some time now, so we were really grateful to make one with them! Brewed with Llano Pilsner and Denton County Wheat Malt from TexMalt, flaked oats, Idaho 7, Loral Cryo, and TRI-2304CR Cryo from YCH Hops. Triple dry-hopped with more TRI-2304CR Cryo, and a pretty outrageous amount of Galaxy and Mosaic. Fermented with A38 Juice Imperial.

We get aromas/flavors of honeydew melon in coconut milk, watermelon-cantaloupe sorbet, lime curd, and Lemon Jelly Fruit Slices.

$9.00
Bawk! (DIPA) – Urban Roots Brewing
8% ABV – Bawk! Double IPA, a big bright Double IPA straight outta’ Sacramento featuring Centennial, Citra and Ekuanot.
$11.00
Brass Boots (Copper Ale) – Cellarmaker Brewing
5.5% ABV – This is a real treat for any drinker who enjoys a malt focused beer. Brass Boots is imbued with a tantalizing deep orange hue from English Maris Otter, Dark Crystal and Honey Malts. The aroma is nuanced and reminiscent of dried fruits developing into freshly baked oatmeal cookie as you sip. The flavor follows suit with rustic bread crust, toasted almond and burnt sugar.
$8.00
Bubble Chamber (German Style Pilsner) – Cellarmaker Brewing
5.5% ABV – This is the light beer craft drinkers want to crush. Pleasantly soft citrus & floral orange blossom aromas arise from kettle additions and a light dry hop of Hersbrucker hops directly sourced from Seitz Farm in Germany. The flavor is fresh, clean & vibrant with hints of oolong tea, lilac pollen, honey dipped rye bread and dried lemon peel.
$8.00
Cloudy With A Chance Of Dobis (Hazy IPA) – Cellarmaker Brewing
6.8% ABV – The Dobis family is dedicated to brews made with 100 % Citra. Our tap list, like this Bay Area weather, is changing all the time. However, we love Citra so much, there is usually a chance of Dobis. This Dobis has an expressive yeast to soften & add even more tropical fruity flavors to your experience. We enjoy the aromas of passionfruit, mango & pineapple.
$9.00
Coastal Sunshine (Smoothie Sour Ale) – Humble Forager
6% ABV – This Smoothie Sour Ale is packed with some seriously delicious fruits. Creamy Alphonso mangoes, juicy tangerines and ripe smooth bananas create a thicker texture, refreshing and sweet with a tart balance. This beer will coat your palate with memories of a day at the beach, watching the clouds from a hammock sipping a tropical drink.
$10.00
Cosmic Noon (WC IPA) – Cellarmaker Brewing
7% ABV – Our newest clear and crisp IPA that features a combination of hops that we find truly intriguing. Strata, Nectaron, HBC 586 and Centennial create layers of deep grapefruit, sativa and dark berry flavors supported by a bright stonefruit aroma.
$9.00
Distorted Bliss (WC Pilsner) – Cellarmaker Brewing
5.5% ABV – Life’s about to get a little more warm and fuzzy as you imbibe on our newest California Pilsner Distorted Bliss. Long drinking sessions will be sustained with this crisp and hoppy lager which is mashed with Italian grown pilsner malt, fermented cold and then lightly dry hopped with Strata as well as a touch of Mosaic and Galaxy. A fine aroma of light tropical fruit and whole cluster chenin blanc are followed by flavors of honey drizzle white wheat cracker and dried melon and mango.
$8.00
Dreams Of Youth (Pale Ale) – Radiant Beer Co
5.5% ABV – Our beer memories are filled with fondness for the simpler times, coursing through our DREAMS OF YOUTH. But perhaps with our beer-tinged age comes some beer-soaked experience. Take for example, creating a Pale Ale that pays homage to the old while drawing inspiration from the new. A 5.5% modern day memory which incoroporates Mosaic and Citra while throwing in Amarillo CGX and Idaho 7 hops. It pours a reminiscent clear yellow hue but bursts with aromas of tropical fruit and tangerine whilst still emanating those familiar scents of dank. It’s dry, well carbonated, and slightly bitter, but also hosts notes of pineapple and citrus to contrast the light touches of malt. Come embrace the newness of old.
$8.00
Duality (Hazy Pale Ale) – Cellarmaker Brewing
5.7%ABV – The next beer in a series of 2-Hop pale ales exploring the sexiest hops the world has to offer. Get ready to experience two unique hops coming out of New Zealand: newcomer Nectaron and Cascade (yes the same Cascade but grown in NZ). Nectaron has soft peachy notes and hints of tart blackberry and Cascade, which smells nothing like the stuff grown in the US, is loaded with bright Thai lime and electric Fruit Stripe Gum
$8.00
EZPZ (Pilsner) – Urban Roots Brewing
5% ABV – Dry Hopped Pilsner
$8.00
Gold Dust (Golden Lite Ale) – Cellarmaker Brewing

I Think You’ll Like This (Hazy IPA) – Radiant Beer Co
6.7% ABV – Hey. Come here. Check out this beer. I THINK YOU’LL LIKE THIS. It’s probably right up your alley, you know? 6.7% Hazy IPA with a gorgeous pineapple juice body and an attractive head of white foam? C’mon, you know you can’t resist when a beer pops off with those bright pineapple, passion fruit smells. And I know you’re gonna dig the pillowy, piña colada goodness you get on that first sip. Plus, I think you’ve got one of those pondering palates, the kind that would pick up on those little touches of tangelo and lychee. I mean, I see you all excited for a fresh juice boi. So c’mon, prove me wrong. Show Less
$9.00
Juice Never Sleeps (Hazy IPA) – Cellarmaker Brewing
7% ABV – There aren’t enough hours in the day to crank out the amount of haze that you all craze. Round the clock juice from the Skaze Factory doesn’t keep up with demand so sleep isn’t an option. This latest hop chowder features a unique blend of HBC 586, Galaxy, Citra & New Zealand Cascade for ripping aromas of Scorpion Bowls, Cadillac margaritas, Big League Chew & Sour Diesel. Hopefully this satisfies y’all for long enough so that we can take a quick nap.
$9.00
Jumbo Timbo (WC IPA) – Highland Park Brewery
7.5% ABV – Jumbo Timbo is an amped up version of Timbo Pils! Hopped with the same hops as Timbo, Citra & Mosaic, but just with a higher ABV sitting in a nice 7.5% ABV.

$9.00
Love Your Roots Pils (German-Style Pilsner) – Urban Roots Brewing
5% ABV – Love Your Roots Pilsner #1 features a brand new hop out of Germany called Amira. This hop exhibits some serious dank notes, reminiscent of American hops but has a background lemony, citrusy note for a slightly modern take on a pils style without pushing into the extremely high levels of citrus and dank found in a West Coast Pils or Pale Ale. Light and crispy, this limited release won’t last long in this summer heat so get it while you can.
$8.00
Luna De Miel (Mexican Lager) – Urban Roots Brewing

As usual we used only the best Nelson from Freestyle Farms in New Zealand, a farm that we have traveled to in the past to select their finest hops. What should you always remember about Mt Nelson? Well, climbing it is fun, but finding your way to the bottom.
$8.00
Munich Style Helles (Helles Lager) – Jester King Brewery

Sending Out Lite (Light Lager) – Radiant Beer Co
4% ABV – Keep it light – and under 100 calories per 12 oz serving – with our classic, American light lager that’s low in calories, high in refreshment, and clean in flavor. $8.00
Serious Leisure (Guava Sour Ale) – Fair State Brewing Co-Op
5% ABV – Guava, Lime, and Hibiscus sour for those days you need to get serious about not doing anything.
$8.00
Snörkel (Farmhouse Ale) – Jester King Brewery
4.2% ABV – Snörkel — a farmhouse ale brewed with alderwood smoked sea salt and oyster mushrooms grown by our neighbor Logro Farms. Logro Farms is located just a few hundred yards from Jester King Brewery at Ceres Park Ranch. Snörkel takes partial inspiration from traditional German Gose. Like Gose, it’s moderate in alcohol, brewed with malted wheat and salt, and has some acidity or sourness in the flavor profile. We specifically used both sea salt and alderwood smoked sea salt, and fermented Snörkel (like all our beer) with a blend of brewers yeast, naturally occurring wild yeast, and native souring bacteria, the last of which lends the beer its acidity. But Gose only served as a jumping off point. From there, we set out to explore the savory characteristics of umami through use of the oyster mushrooms.
$8.00
Squared Circle (Hazy IPA) – Vitamin Sea Brewing
6.8% ABV – This hazy IPA hopped with Nectaron delivers a tropical paradise in every sip. Bursting with luscious flavors of ripe passionfruit, golden pineapple, and juicy mango, As you take a sip, waves of citrus dance on your palate, with vibrant notes of grapefruit and tangy orange. A subtle sweetness reminiscent of peach and apricot adds depth and complexity to this tropical symphony. The resinous nature of Nectaron hops creates a velvety mouthfeel, leaving a pleasantly lingering bitterness that keeps you coming back for more.
$9.00
The Amber (Vienna Lager) – Third Window Brewing
5.1% ABV – An unfiltered Vienna-style lager brewed with heirloom Vienna malt, Noble hops, yeast, and time.
$8.00
The Best Deceptions (Hazy TIPA) – Radiant Beer Co. (Copy)
10.6% ABV – Big. Bold. Deceitfully drinkable. THE BEST DECEPTIONS are always pleasantly more than meets the eye. This is a 10.6% Hazy TIPA with a single job – defy expectations. A powerhouse pack of Citra, Strata, Mosaic, Simcoe, and Cashmere make up the bill for this hazy, creamy peach juice of a pour. Intensely tropical aromatics waft out individual scents of mango, gardenia, and tangerine sorbet. A warm, pleasant up-front alcohol touch lends nicely to a further island blend of primary mango and secondary P.O.G. flavor. Creamy, perfectly carbed, and dangerously delicious.
$12.00
The Glow (Pale Ale) – Cellarmaker Brewing
5.7% ABV – Motueka and Citra hops provide a Satsuma zest nose with pleasantly bitter tropical tang and candy apricot on a familiar coastal New Zealand hop flavor undertone. We had to sprinkle The Glow with a little Simcoe and Mosaic for some of that west coast dankness that we love. It’s got that Cellarmaker glow!
$8.00
Timbo (Hoppy Pilsner) – Highland Park Brewery
5.8% ABV – We took inspiration from both German Pilsners and West Coast IPAs for Timbo Pils. We used more German influenced hops in the kettle which gives the beer a softer bitterness and a nice floral and earthy hop base. We then used Mosaic and Citra for dry hopping to bring out the tropical west coast flavors of mango, riesling grapes, and passionfruit.
$8.00
Tiny Dankster (Hazy Pale Ale) – Cellarmaker Brewing
5.7% ABV – Hopped with generous additions of Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic & Citra this is one of our juiciest pale ales. It strikes the perfect balance between medium intensity hoppiness and very high drinkability. Notes of pineapple, kiwi, gooseberry, diesel, citrus and tropical fruits. Hold Me Closer Tiny Dankster!
$9.00

4.8% ABV – This step-mashed witbier is brewed with unmalted wheat, Pilsner malt, Santa Barbara oranges, a touch of spice, and time. Unfiltered, unfined.

Wine
Champagne Vadin-Plateau (Champagne)
Grapes have played a serious part in the Vadin family for many years, since 1785 to be exact. Located in Cumières, this artisan Champagne “grower” produces several wines from their 7 hectares of 1er Cru vines which are dispersed over 7 different villages but from an astounding 100 different plots. The dynamic Yann Vadin stands at the helm, making him the 9th generation. Vadin-Plateau’s Renaissance is a Blanc de Noirs, produced from 100% Meunier, the fruitiest variety from Champagne. This blend of 2013 (80%) and 2012 (20%) offers an attractive nose of sweet pears, white flowers and a whiff of red cherries. Creamy and expansive on the palate with a lovely texture and length.
$75.00
Direct Press – The Marigny (Pinot Gris)
Basically, Andy makes this every year in an attempt to recreate a picnic that happened in a park in Texas in the spring of 1997. The wine was Pinot Grigio. It was crisp, slightly effervescent and bought by a friend that was old enough to go into the store to get it. It was also perfect in its simplicity, as we were young and full of discovery. Serve with strawberries, caesar salad, olive bread and sunshine.
$48.00
Las Jaras – Glou Glou (Red Blend)
At Las Jaras, our goal is to make delicious wine that has tons of energy and balance. We want them to be vibrant, delicate, and supple all at the same time while also being food friendly and easy for anyone to enjoy. Our wines are intended to reflect the unique terroir of the vineyards using minimal intervention so you can taste their natural, rhythmic expression. If you are not used to drinking wines made this way, the experience can be a revelation.
$52.00
Stolpman – Love You Bunches (Rose)
Riper red berry fruit sings over the tart finish resulting in a pleasurable, quenching crunch. A perfected adult version of Sour Patch Kids candy. A floaty fleshiness develops by the second glass – which, btw, arrives quickly – with some mellowing watermelon notes on the mid-palate.
$46.00
Wonderwerk – Bustin’ Loose (Orange)
The orange version of the Bustin Loose is a blend of four different grapes: Pinot Gris, Malvasia, Riesling and Muscat. Bone dry, zero-zero, crunchy, carbonic, organic orange wine dedicated to the godfather of Go-Go – Chuck Brown!
$48.00
Wonderwerk – Free Your Body (Orange)
Free Your Body is a biodynamic orange wine that balances oxidative extraction with freshness. We cut our teeth on a conventional, reductive version of this varietal – a perennial peachy-pear poolside punch made with loads of intervention. We still love that wine, but Grenache Blanc has tremendous potential for low-intervention orange wine production. It is a seriously thick-skinned varietal with a lot of aroma, flavor, and tannin that are unlocked when fermented on the skins. Our goal was to extract the best character that the grape skins had to offer without mindlessly consuming them whole.

Alright — first off, I’ll just come out and say, personally, this is the 2nd best smash burger in LA so far. Very soft breading, burger is made from ground short rib and it carries a lot of flavor and some crunch. Fries were fairly good as well! Also, a shout out for very nice and attentive staff — unusual for casual eating in LA.

My wife is from LA and every single time we visit she used to make us go to In-N-Out Burger. Now every time we visit, my wife makes us go to Heavy Handed and I can say my life has changed. The burgers and heavy sauce are freaking amazing! You can get a beer, wine, ice cream! It’s soft-serve baby, you’ll love it. The vibes are high. In-N-Out sucks. LONG LIVE HH!

We had high expectations for this place after reading many positive reviews and seeing it on Infatuation’s best deal for DineLA. We got there at 2:30pm and parked easily behind the restaurant. However, we had to wait 20 minutes for a table and another 25 minutes for our food. The burgers were disappointing: the double short rib patty was bland and dry (it is on the small side). The fries were plentiful but average. The only things we enjoyed were the beer, the ice cream and the outdoor seating. The food did not live up to the hype.

After visiting Heavy-handed in Santa Monica, I have mixed feelings about my dining experience. I ordered a single burger with heavy fries and a canned beer. While the fries were cooked to perfection and had a nice crunch to them, I was disappointed with the quality of cheese used in my burger. It tasted like a basic, low quality cheese that didn’t impress me at all.

Best smash burger in LA? Pretty difficult to beat in my estimation right now!! Single, double, or triple, beef-tallow French fries (like oooold school McDonald’s), huge beer menu. Nothing fancy, incredibly simple and straight forward and delicious. Why mess with simple perfection?

Great all around spot with music and ambiance. You can’t help but think about the other places that make smash burgers at a substantial lower price. Window tastes pretty much the same as they also use the smash style. This tasty single was definitely worth the visit, and the fries with that suace hit the spot, too. All in all, it was a great visit, and the food was great. Just little too pricey to make the jump from double to triple for my liking.

Saw a long line here the other night so thought I’d give it a try. Burger was decent, and it reminded me of Shake Shacks. Wish there were more than pickles in the burger, perhaps having the option to add lettuce and tomatoes. It was too heavy for my liking. I’d definitely go back though for the ice cream!
