Terrible tacos! When you ask for extra salsa to mask the terrible taste of the tacos they charge you for extra sauce! I only finished my tacos because I didn’t want to waste food…otherwise I would have thrown it away. And no, I didn’t purchase extra salsa…not really that good at all and totally not worth the extra cost.

Tasty place to stop in for a quick bite. I LOVE their fried shells but the meat is ground up with the beans which isn’t my personal favorite but the flavor is awesome! Cheese curds are a MUST. Trust me….you’ll thank me later. I haven’t met someone who hasn’t loved HJ’s. It’s locally family-owned, quick and tasty!

Really couldn’t ask for a better local taco place. The crunchy flour tacos are, dare I say, better than Tasty Tacos and the cheese and onion enchiladas are divine. I’ve been going here for more than thirty years and the food has remained unbelievably consistent. I recommend doing double fideo with an extra sour cream.

Almost missed the place, I love it . Simple, but done right. Rice and Fideo where the sides I tried and they where good. Tacos where good as well, I like how they mixed the refried beans with the meat. Great on a busy night when you have no dinner plans.

Not good at all. The beans were dry. The tacos were terrible. Horrible by comparison to what we usually know their food to be. The new location, well we were seating in the toilet section which needed some attending I’m guessing, was slightly less then desirable. A barely dressed little girl took care of our ordering needs as another person in the back attempted to do some cooking. I mean idk if there’s a crisis going on with the original staff or what but we won’t be returning until some sort of change occurs. Used to love it. Sorry for whatever is bringing things to what they are today.

Henry J’s is a south side local favorite. Their tacos are a front running contender for best flour taco in Des Moines. When I stopped in to grab some tacos to go, I immediately appreciated the obvious detail and time invested in store cleanliness. Currently, most restaurants and businesses continue to struggle with labor shortage, however, they were able to still provide excellent customer service and hot fresh food,

Great spot for fried tacos. Don’t expect to find street style our gourmet tacos. Their fried tortilla is similar to Tasty tacos but more on the crispy side and less chewy. Best re-fried beans I’ve ever had. You can tell they really cool them ( probably with lard)
