I had the fried/stew fish with jollof rice, and it was so delicious. Every bite was overflowing with flavor, and the fish was just falling off the bone. The portions were pretty big, too. It’s a cute spot, beautiful and simple decorations. One thing I really liked was that as soon as we walked in, we could smell incense burning, which was pretty nostalgic for me. Created a very soothing atmosphere.

Heritage Spice is a small clean restaurant serving delicious food. We tried the Egusi with Fufu and the Oxtail with Jollof rice. We couldn’t wait to dig in. The oxtail was tender and spicy. The jollof rice was flavorful. The egusi was sweet and spicy. The fufu was soft. The restaurant itself is very small with about 5 tables. It is very clean and decorated nicely. It was a little hot inside, it seems the air conditioning wasn’t working that well when we went. Also it did take a little long to get the food but I think that’s a good thing, means the food is fresh. There is street parking and municipal parking nearby. Overall great experience with trying Nigerian food for the first time. THANK YOU.

Wow! I have been dying to try African food but I had no clue where to start. My parents and I came to Heritage Spice and Demi was so patient and friendly helping us choose some appetizers and dishes to try. Everything was delicious! The flavors and the spice left me almost speechless. The music was great and the overall atmosphere was very comfortable. I can’t wait to come back and try more things!

I had the opportunity to eat here recently and the food exceeded my expectations! The owner is lovely, the service was great, and the food portions were more than enough! I live in NY, but I’ll travel to CT anytime just to get some authentic Nigerian food.

I usually don’t leave reviews but when a restaurant drops the ball over and over and over you have to be honest about the service you received and we have been extremely disappointed being that we truly wanted to support this restaurant and the lovely people who work there. They just can’t get it right unfortunately. Less than 1 star if I could be brutally honest. Hate to do it but it was just that bad of an experience on more than one occasion. We tried to give it a chance.

The food was amazing! I’m so glad my wife found this place! I had the jerk chicken and she had a fish dish. The fish reminded her of her childhood, and I dropped a piece of food on my shirt and still ate it, but realized at that moment I would have eaten it off the floor, it was that good!

Heritage Spice located downtown Shelton is an exceptional five-star restaurant that offers a delightful blend of African and Caribbean cuisine. We had the Oxtail with Jollof Rice and the Ewa Egoyon served with pounded yam and a side of Samosas. The food is truly authentic, bursting with rich flavors and aromas that transport you to distant lands. The service is impeccable, with attentive and knowledgeable servers who happily guide you through the menu, creating a great cultural exchange. The cozy and quaint ambiance adds to the overall experience, making it a perfect spot for a memorable dining occasion like our date night. I wholeheartedly recommend Heritage Spice to anyone seeking a unique and remarkable culinary adventure. David Keyser, Realtor with Dave Jones Realty LLC
