The Kiddy Brothers came to Houston with great BBQ on their minds. The oldest brother started his BBQ restaurant back in 1953. Since then, the brothers have opened several different BBQ restaurants in Houston. James opened The Hickory Barn in November of 1980. Although times have changed, our idea of great BBQ hasn’t. We use choice meats and the freshest produce while keeping competitive prices.

This place is legendary! It’s been around forever! Food is always good. I’ve never had a bad thing there. Service is spot on. BBQ dudes are always nice and helpful. The inside has a cool, classic vibe. If I could eat more there I would.

Years ago It used to be a really great place. With quality home made food & flavor.

BBQ robs are good, but the beef is missing flavor. Green beans were really good as the Mac&Cheese! All staff was friendly and acknowledged everyone. Not the best, but not the worse. I’ll be back to try something different….

The catfish plate is good. The tartar sauce, is a new one for me. Has a small hint of cinnamon in it which comes in towards the back end, after you’ve taken a bite.

I wanted to love this place. The brisket is very good, we loved the Mac and cheese. The house made French fries were delicious. In fact the brisket was the second best I have ever had. Perfect blend of lean, fat and crust.

Service was friendly and fast. The place is a bit dated, but homey, so that’s fine. The food was good. I wouldn’t say great. I’m used to smoked or grilled ribs, not like these, and too much butter on the bread…a lake of butter. Great beans and fries. I’d try other stuff if I go back.

I had not been here in several years but was on this side of town and wanted to see if they were as good as I remember. Hickory Barn did not let me down, chopped beef sandwich was the perfect blend of lean and moist, okra was not too crunchy and the links had just the right amount of flavor. Great choice when you are on the SW side!

I went in on my way home from work on Father’s Day and picked up 9 lbs. of brisket, a gallon of mac & cheese and 2 qts. of fried okra. I only waited about 10 minutes even though they were fairly steady with other customers also picking up to go. I took it home and added some of my own sides and easily fed my group of 10 including 6 men with hearty appetites. It was a hit with the guys who returned for additional servings throughout the evening. We still had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. The brisket was tender and juicy, the mac & cheese very filling and the okra was devoured. I would definitely recommend getting your barbecue from them. And if you have a big group to feed in short notice they’ve got you handled.

It used to be a great BbQ place but they changed. All meats right now have no flavor at all. Ribs and Brisket were too dry. While the price goes up, quality goes down. I’m so disappointed. Especially, they charged me wrong. I came and asked them to explain the bill, they said something that made no sense and after I bring my tray there, they said they charged me wrong but just over charged 1$ so is that ok. That’s funny. The bill was different from what I got so make sure you check your bill too. Overall, they ruined my experience and I wouldn’t go back here anymore.

The three meat plate was good but not better than average. We got and shared the brisket which was tender with some flavor but served at room temperature ( this was an issue with everything but the freshly fried fried okra). The sausage was good but not warm, the ribs were tasty but not warm. The fried okra was hot and tasty, the cole slaw was fresh but a little sweeter than I like. I know ‘Q places have stuff under heat lamps and if it stays there any length of time it gets dried out…..not an issue here ’cause none of the food was warm.
