Sedona’s rookie of the year for 2020 in the bbq game. Juicy and flavorful ribs in quarter/half/full racks. TJ the owner is the most generous and offers tasters of the country style sweet mac n’ cheese or scratch bbq pit beans with a balanced blend of sweet, tangy and savory notes. As a native San Diegan and very discerning taco connoisseur, I give a rating of 7.5 from 1 to 10 on both the suadero and Puerto tacos. For a savory onion flavor I would go for the suadero. The Puerco is cleverly paired with pineapple and offers a sweet and savory personality with cool refreshing notes perfect for summer or after a hot hike. Wash it down with an ice cold Mexican Sprite or Coke.

I was raised on Kansas City BBQ, I was absolutely astounded at the quality of the smoke and uniqueness of the sauce. TJs( the food truck chef) wealth of culinary experience has cultivated into many amazing combinations.

Great pulled pork, great brisket. I haven’t gotten a chance to try the ribs but I really hope to next time I go. Still, if you’re on the fence, go for the sandwiches. They’re super tasty, generous portions, and the sauce is good. They have a lot of good options that I haven’t tried, so I’ll update once I’ve had other sandwiches and such. They’re only open Fri-Monday, so if you have time on a weekend afternoon, this is a good BBQ spot.

Looking for great takeout the last night of our Sedona trip. High Desert BBQ was definitely it. Managed to get the first cut off the smoked brisket. Did not disappoint. Decent sides as well. Can’t wait to go back when they transition from the food truck to the brick and mortar building, and spend some time eating and enjoying the views.

We’ve lived in Sedona for about 2 years now, but we had never tried this place. We got take out the other night of brisket and ribs with beans and pineapple coleslaw. We’re a 6 minute drive home and the meat was almost cold by the time we got home. The ribs seemed undercooked to me. The sauce was very good and the smoked flavor was good. Neither of us liked the coleslaw, and we’ve had pineapple coleslaw that we really love. I had major stomach distress later in the evening that woke me up at night. I don’t know if it was the ribs or not, but I rarely have stomach distress. My hubby had stomach distress the morning after. We will not eat there again. I gave three stars for the flavor of the sauce.

Our first time at High Desert BBQ. We were impressed with the flavor of the food. We had ribs, a sandwich, beans and mac and cheese. All was good but the temperature could be cranked up a bit. By time we got home (2 miles) nothing was very warm. Owner was very personable and accommodating. We will return.

We were excited to check this place out after a day trip to Sedona. Unfortunately it didn’t meet our expectations. The service was a bit slow, our order did not come out right and the food was not up to par. The brisket was pretty tough, the pulled pork flavorless, the corn bread did not have the New Mexican green chili’s as advertised and the beans were undercooked. I know they are getting their feet wet and we did provide feedback in person so we wish them well in their endeavors.

This review has two major parts. First the positive …. we had the brisket which was amazing and same goes for the beans. I have had brisket in Texas many times and this compares very well with the Texas style. The owner was extremely nice and was a pleasure. Now with the negative. Given this environment with Covid-19, my wife and I came up to the truck wearing masks … we would expect the owner, especially preparing our food would have himself worn a mask since it was obviously important to us. He never did wear a mask much to our dismay. Next even though the beans were fantastic biting into a rock in the beans almost chipped a tooth. The mac and cheese I just did not like. We also ordered corn bread as a side and as a order but when we got back to the hotel it was not included in the bag. But with the mask incident we just said forget it and did not return. Mind you we were the only customers there at the time. Would I eat there again … sure but not in today Covid-19 climate especially in AZ.

If you’re looking for a great lunch, get the Hog Heaven! Ribs were smoked so well and still juicy very easy to eat. Great addition to Sedona’s food style.
