I was driving up 83 from York and saw a sign for this cafe. The sign featured 2 of my favorites – steak and sea food. I got off 83 and drove there. I was a little disappointed when I saw a sign on the building “sports bar” which I usually associate with beer and burgers. I was surprised with the menu . I ordered the broiled cod with a baked potato and a tossed salad. I could not eat all of the food. The portion of cod was too much for me to eat at one setting. The salad was also large. The food was excellent. The service was great and the atmosphere was inviting and cozy. I will definitely stop at this cafe again when I am in the area. If you stop here you won’t be disappointed.

This was a surprising little nook. We happen to stumble upon this restaurant while on a day trip. The prices are affordable. The food portion size is enough for two meals. The atmosphere is cozy with a classy type vibe. I definitely will be back to try more dishes.

Maybe my expectations were higher than they should have been. It’s been a while since my last visit. The food was good, but for the price point, I just expected more. Since the place is for sale, I suspect the quality isn’t the same as it used to be.

This is a pretty nice place, nothing super fancy, but a step above other places. We sat in a booth, and the benches were so close to the table, we could barely fit. I even had a hard time manipulating my purse. The food was pretty good. My husband said he wouldn’t get his choice again. I believe it was haddock or cod stuffed with crab. He didn’t like the sauce on it. I had crab cakes. They were pretty good. Not the best I’ve ever had, but pretty good. We had a piece of peanut butter pie, which was super rich! Wow! The peanut butter flavor wasn’t real strong. They use a generic peanut butter from a food service. Will we go back? Probably not. The bill was pretty high for what we got.

My husband and I, along with two friends, ate at the Hillside Cafe on July 19th, and had a wonderful dinner there, along with great service from Darlene. Not only is she an excellent waitress with a wonderful personality, but more importantly, she is extremely knowledgeable about everything on the menu. I would say the Hillside is very lucky to have her!

My parents recommended this place due to eating here when they lived here over 20 years ago. So initially I was excited to eat here now that I live in this area. But I have to say the excitement was quickly pushed back when we got here. We waited at least a good 5 minutes before the hostess came to seat us. They were busy, but not busy that there were not plenty of seats available to seat us or other people. Food: the food was only ‘ok’ the prices and environment made me think that it was a ‘little’ more upscale food. But wrong, it truly reminded me of regular diner type of food with much higher prices. 16 dollars for our pretzel appetizer to give some perspective on the prices here. The service. It may have been a bad night for our server, but I still have to mention that the service was horrible. Slow, inattentive and just not a pleasant experience when we are waiting for things to be delivered and served. Just not a good experience overall, too expensive for the poor quality of food available.

I haven’t been in this place in years. We stopped there for lunch and sat at a table across from the bar-the sign said seat yourdself. Hardly anyone in the place, a bartender was taking care of two men sitting at the bar. There were a couple folks at tables. No one had food, just drinks. We sat. And sat. The bartender looked over but neither him or anyone else ever came to even acknowledge we were there. We waited to see, perhaps the server was getting someone’s food order. No one came out from the back. We finally got up and left, went elsewhere.
