Loved this Dim Sum location located in the heart of Chinatown. The typical moving cart dim sum; very very loud but everything we tried was delicious! Brought me close to Hong Kong Dim Sum.

Never have I ever had cold dim sum. We arrived towards the end of the work day. They were going to have a party in 2 hours. The food, although nice to look at, was not very good. The spring rolls, completely cold. They didn’t have a wide selection. The service wasn’t very good. Just people trying to unload already prepared food that they wanted to get rid of. Very disappointed since their Google score was high. What did I miss? Also, the dining room was very disorganized and almost tripped over a tablecloth on the floor.

We came here for dim sum on a Sunday afternoon. The food was great but some of the items were sold out since we got there past noon. The last dish we got was some mustard greens and it was good until we realized it was covered in small flies!! We told the waiter and he waived that one off our bill but we had already ate more than half until we realized the small black dots weren’t seasonings. Would not come back here and definitely don’t recommend when they can’t even wash their vegetables.

Established in 1989 as Delight 28 on Pell Street located in Manhattan’s Chinatown, today House of Joy is your traditional, large dim sum parlor where servers push around carts of goods for you to select which my partner, my family and I came today for lunch. Haven’t been here in a while and like how they renovated. It’s more spacious and brighter than I remember. Upon arrival, there were patrons waiting for a table by grabbing a numbered ticket from the host/hostess. You’ll get quoted a certain wait time and surprisingly, the wait itself wasn’t too bad! For my group of 4, it was around a 30 min wait whose atmosphere was control chaos. Unless one has a big group, be prepare to share a table with other parties. Luckily we had our own table. Instead of dim sum, we opted for a dinner menu which was quite extensive and ordered Pan Fried Flounder, Sliced Beef with Broccoli, Crispy Fried Chicken and Pork Chop Peking Style (Sweet & Sour). The food was extremely flavorful, fresh and tasty. The service was friendly and price reasonable. Looking forward to visiting again when we find a craving for some dim sum which we can recommend.

Jun’23. 4.5* rounded up. Currently the best dim sum for me in Chinatown. The har gao (shrimp dumpling $5) was very good with noticeable large chunks of shrimp. The unique item was the flakey Baked Durian Pastry ($7.50): it was filled with a fluffy light durian flavored custard. The Minced Beef Balls ($5) had the right taste with cilantro and could have been more tender. The steam pork spareribs with black bean sauce ($5) could have had more smashed black beans. The rice roll with fried dough stick was cold and missed the mark; the fried dough was tough & oily and not fluffy. The generous portioned turnip cake ($5) as also cold and was otherwise tasty. The Shu Mai (pork and shrimp dumplings) was tasteless as it was unsalted and did not have any mushrooms. The under-filled sticky rice in lotus leaf ($5) had mince meat, 1 small piece of Chinese sausage and egg yolk (no mushroom?). Tea was $1 per person. Service was efficient.

Really authentic Dim Sum dishes that are delicious. The Crystal dumplings, shrimp cooked perfectly, actually, all the dumplings were fantastic. Loved the steamed buns, chicken feet (I know, not for everyone), cucumber salad (I loved this so much I tried to recreate at home tonight, no cigar), somethings I had no idea what I was eating but really good, and super interesting warm desserts. Long waits and staff a bit confused at times, still well worth the food, experience and value!

No, don’t order their dim sum. The taste is mediocre, some are even cold. I can definitely tell that they must not make all dim sum dishes in their kitchen, instead they just order frozen from wholesalers. However, the dish we ordered from the menu, cooked freshly by their chef, was amazing!

If u go on the weekend and there’s a line outside, u need to go in and find the guy with the clipboard and get a ticket. Atmosphere is bustling, meaning it might be a little loud inside. Sometimes hard to understand ladies pushing carts, but it’s all part of the experience.

This place was CROWDED on a Monday afternoon around 1:00 so be warned! The service is nice enough for traditional Chinese spots, especially if you speak Chinese. The shrimp dumpling skin was too thick for my liking and the siu mai was just alright. I did like the “ham suy gok” fried nicely without being too brown/burnt. The steamed chicken feet could have also been a bit softer but still tasty

I recommend Cha Siu Bao叉烧包 ,牛杂,and 流沙包。siu mai烧卖is great too. I don’t like the shrimp dumpling (the flour is too sticky) or the preserved egg porridge(too plain). We 2 people ate only$33-great value. Be prepared for the wait here.
