So we’re spending a few days in Indio. We’ve never been here before and didn’t know what to expect, especially didn’t know what to expect for food. The first place we tried was Huerta’s. It has good reviews so we gave it a shot. Didn’t look like much from the outside but you can’t judge a book by the cover as the saying goes. I ordered the carnitas plate and my wife got the shrimp enchiladas. My meal was good. The carnitas were cooked to perfection. Not too salty and not over cooked. I would rank it right up there with 5 puntos in East Los. My wife’s dish was very flavorful. I would say it was better than my dish. If you live in Indio or are visiting, try this place. I ordered the Desayuno Huertas and a coctel. The Desayuno was good potatoes needed a little more flavor now the coctel was not good it looked pale and did need more flavor. The reason I give it 3 stars is because the service was bad and the restrooms look like the gas station restrooms plus the women restroom was out of service.

Wait staff is friendly and the place is clean, but sweet baby Moses in a basket, that food was awful. The refried beans were delicious, but that was all we were able to eat. Now, maybe it’s because we’re from Houston, TX and we have literally the best foods in the USA due to our huge melting pot of cultures and I’m just spoiled on the Mexican food here, but… dang y’all. This gringa shouldn’t make better tamales than a Mexican restaurant.
