I was heading home from OBX, and wanted a quick meal that wasn’t the same old ordinary…found Hwy 55 on Google maps, and figured I’d give it a try. This place looks so innocuous and rather bland from outside, but the inside is an explosion of 50s era diner nostalgia! I missed the decade by about 25 years, but there was a great vintage feel…the staff was quick and efficient; the cashier lady was helpful and friendly.

Place definitely needs to be cleaned! There was only 2 people working in there. 1 cook and 1 waitress. Took 30 min to get drinks. Waitress Wasn’t very friendly, very slow. They were out of milkshakes, steak and cheese, some soda they were pouring out of 2 liters. Food was decent. Cook was friendlier, I heard him mention that it was just the 2 of them and everyone else quit.

we went and ordered our food, they were out of chicken, shrimp, icecream, and onion rings. so we HAD to order burgers and fries. the service was fine but the restaurant was not. There were flies and nats EVERYWHERE and while we are sitting at our table eating we saw not one but TWO mice. the food is good when they actually have it, the service was fine, the restaurant is just gross. I wouldn’t say not to get food here but I wouldn’t eat there again.

Multiple times have gone there around 7:30 pm/8:00 pm with the open sign on, and the lights still on, and when we pull up to the parking space by the door and a teenage worker comes up and locks the door even though it’s stated that they close at 9pm! We have gone in there around 5/6pm before and it seemed like the staff were mad that they had customers, making snide remarks and overall being rude, which doesn’t surprise me because most of the staff are high school kids that rather hang out and talk with each other than to actually work. Food quality is subpar at best, the inside of the building is in dire need of repair, bathrooms are usually disgusting, and the seating areas are not very clean.

Pretty good vibe and the food is okay. We were traveling home from OBX and found this restaurant. Understaffed, but we were warned as we walked in that it may be a while before we eat. No worries – worth the wait because we were hungry. However, each sandwich was dripping in mayonnaise making the bun saturated. I couldn’t taste the fried shrimp through the mayo so I took it apart. Upon visiting the bathroom I noticed no soap or paper towels. At the end, I won’t return. As a fried food establishment it could have been easier to prepare and serve the meals. The ungloved hand of the cook should not have been sweeping and throwing trash away while my shrimp was in the fryer. It will either improve or shut down. I hope it improves – the 50’s vibe is pretty neat. Avoided ice cream given my experience and cleanliness of the restaurant.

It has been a while since I was here and don’t plan on returning. Nasty, place was full of flies, no chicken tenders, no onion rings, no pimiento cheese, Found a Dead fly in my tea. The bathrooms well just look at picture. And no milk shakes

We went there again tonight (12/6) and got awesome food, bacon cheeseburger, fries and one of the best chocolate shakes in this part of NC. However our last visit couple months ago was disappointing, I think it mainly depends on who is working. Today was delicious and exactly what you would expect from a burger place. Please keep those employees from today!!!
