I really enjoyed my dinner at Hymel’s! I had the catfish po boy which tasted very fresh and delicious with a little hot sauce. The “large” beer is absolutely huge! That was very nice! It lasted through the whole dinner. I went during a live music night, and that was very nice to see people dancing and enjoying life together. The service was prompt and the food was delicious. My only complaint is that most of the food was fried and they were out of a lot of the fresh seafood they usually have to offer. This place has been a family staple for generations, and I highly recommend it to satisfy your food cravings 🙂

Good and friendly service. Great sweet potato fries & pretty tasty fried chicken. However, portions are small and most items, especially the seafood is overpriced. You can Easily find larger portions at seafood restaurants that are closer to Baton Rouge or New Orleans at better prices. The locals don’t seem to mind based upon the manner of people there at 1:30pm on a Sunday afternoon.

I absolutely adore this place. I’ve been coming here for 20+ years and have always loved it. That being said I went there last weekend and the food was horrible. We got a dozen raw oysters and turtle soup. The soup was good as always but it was cold when it came out. The oysters were terrible. Whoever shucked them left so much shell in them that myself and my girlfriend almost chipped our teeth. I noticed that almost none of the regular staff was working, and I’ll attribute the poor food to the staff that didn’t seem to take pride in their work. I love this place and will continue to patronize it because they need business to stay open. They are a staple in south Louisiana, but if y’all want to stay open, please make sure your staff is doing their job.

After being seated, took 30 minutes to order drinks and appetizer, then another 30 minutes before we could order our food. Food took an hour to come. Waitress had attitude. Food was cold. The only food that was good was the toast. Several of us went as a group, all were dissatisfied! I will never go back there! Save your money and go elsewhere! We should have went to McDonald’s, that’s a high class 5 star restraunt compared to this dump. Not sure how this place passes a health inspection.

Tonight the food was near perfection. Not only was we served in a very timely manner but our orders were hot and delicious. Reminds me of the first time I ever went to Hymel’s many years ago. Thanks to management, cooks and servers.

A lot of my co-workers were talking about Hymel’s. I went to check it out with my family and even my little boy finished his plate! I ate frog legs for the first time in my life and must say it was great! The hype is right! They have Buffett on Thursday! Definitely recommend everyone who loves seafood!

We went Friday night to eat and see a band there. The oysters were under-cooked and the gumbo was warm and not hot. I would rate the food at about a 7. I’ve eaten better here, so I feel the Valentines crowd effected their quality.

First time I ate there I loved it!!!! We eat out almost everyday and it’s close to where we are. But….. second time third time I figured it was wait staff so we tried a forth time well when you ask for no tomatoes 3 times and you get tomatoes especially when you can eat them. They take it and say I’ll fix that myself and they take it to the back take them off poboy and bring it back to you with seeds and juice still on bun, plate etc. I’m sorry but that is not how you take care of customers especially if they are allergic to them. So my husband didn’t eat his food because he wasn’t gonna have me watch him eat with no food. I was offered nothing not even an apology. Maybe they need the younger waitresses in there that know how to keep customers happy… sometimes waitresses get to comfortable and forget that it is a business and a businesses biggest advertisement is word of mouth and when your customers work at plants you surely can lose some of your business over comfortable waitresses. FYI you don’t curse while ur waiting on customers either. I hope the owners can understand where I’m coming from and have a come to Jesus meeting with them lord knows they need it cause a business isn’t easy to keep open these days. Especially if you allow waitresses to run it how they please.I would love to return as most of the food is awesome. It’s just your staff.
