I had to stop at Ike’s Love Sandwich Shop because Crazy Eight my one eyed painter pal from the Golden Gate bridge painting crew asked me for a sandwich worthy of a day off. We used to frequent here occasionally out of convenience and never have very good service, but our most recent visit will be our last. We ordered two sandwiches (it was not busy at all) and it took an absorbent amount of time solely because only one person out of the three employees was doing any work. I feel bad for the one employee trying his best while the other two played with napkins and chatted. When we checked in to see if there was a problem with our order (after almost an hour) we rudely told that they will get to it when they can before that employee went back to playing with napkins and talking about their dating history. The second star is solely for the one employee trying while the others did nothing.

My first meal after getting off a 13-hour flight to SFO! This place is my friend’s go-to sandwich place (as they live in Daly) and my friend’s husband chose the Matt Cain for me and I did like it – the Dutch crunch is new to me and I would love to scoff a plain slice of it lathered with butter! Anywho, the content of the Matt Cain is nice and meaty but I have to say the sandwich had a hint of sweetness, which I wasn’t a fan of. I like my sammies savoury so am not sure if it was the bread or the sauce. I’d go back and try another sandwich for sure though. I feel like it’d go well with a side of salty chips or even a gherkin (pickle).

Hot sandwiches are the trend here. Lots of different varieties of sandwiches with famous names. We ordered Jeremy stoppelman,Madison bumgarner and the matt cain. All were very good. Everyone sandwich had a signature sauce. Sandwiches average price was $10ea and that about average these days. Remember to ask for the apple caramel lollipops (free).

Used to love this place but it just looks so dirty in there all the time. They also charge you more than the prices on their board. When I called them out they just said we need to change the board. Lame, bad management.
