The original New York J&P Pizza started in 1979 and the J&P were the initials of the original owners. New York J&P in Hampstead opened its doors in December 1983. Back then, the store was only 1,200 square feet in a small shopping center next to a video store and High’s. Eventually, the store expanded into the video store. A few years later High’s left and New York J&P took over the building and grew again. In 2004, a new shopping center was built around the restaurant in the Illiano Plaza. The food definitely tastes better than it looks and the servers are friendly. We love the calamari, bruschetta and boom boom shrimps… Most of the pasta dishes are good as well, the shrimp scampi and gnocchi are my favorite. My only complaint is not having music playing at the restaurant, not sure if it was a one time thing, we usually sit in the bar area but the one time we sat at the other side it was dead quiet, kind of felt awkward because you could hear what everyone was saying at the other tables.

I ordered takeout. I had the strawberry spinach salad with grilled salmon which was delicious. I also had boom boom shrimp and it was super spicy but my son in-law loved it. I can’t wait to go back and try out more food.They have inside and outside seating and a really nice bar.

Mack (Mackenzie) seated us and Corinne was our server. Both made sure our meal was to order and insure we were comfortable. We were here directly after a HUGE, very DAMAGING storm that affected our community. J & P had a generator large enough to support restaurant operations while most other restaurants were dark. Apparently, management called in additional staffing to handle huge crowds needing a meal because most of us lost power.

This was a disappointing dinner. We eat at this restaurant about every couple months. This was not their best effort. Not always, but I do like to get their shrimp salad sub. I was a little concerned before I ordered. I had seen on a local Facebook page complaints about the food changing specifically the shrimp salad. I asked the waitress about it and she said that she saw the posts but it was still the same. I ordered it and unfortunately instead of getting a shrimp salad sub got a lettuce sub with shrimp salad and tomato. The server checked on us when we got our food but not again until we were done. I would have loved to have a drink refill.

I came here with my wife as a part of a small town adventure challenge. I don’t know all the places available nearby but we were both glad we chose to here. The food itself was good. They do not skimp on the portions or the mozzarella. Most Italian restaurants either have good food or large portions rarely do you get both without feeling underdressed. Jeans and a t-shirt is all you’ll need. The service left a little bit to be desired however it wasn’t bad. Just a place to improve. Be prepared to wait a little longer for drinks and your food than you expect. The food and portions make up for it.
