J&J is my favorite Jamaican spot the Jerk Chicken you smell for blocks in the morning. Good people, good food, and great prices. A small platter is like a large and large platter I can never eat in one serving. It’s located at 55th Chester Ave it’s a pretty busy area especially with the let out of schools in the area from 3pm-5pm it’s kind of congested with the Trolleys and school kids.

Whenever I am in the area, takeout from J&J’s is a must!! Go for the food! Huge portions. I have health issues that affect my diet, so I always get Jerk chicken (pictured above) or stew chicken and a double side of cabbage. My husband tries different things – oxtail, rice and beans with gravy, curried goat – all fabulous!! I would say that it might be hard to know this place exists, but once you find it you will always go back!!! We were told about it and it’s always a special day when we go. From the outside and also the inside – it doesn’t look like much. But the food and service are AMAZING!! We always get the large size, and for about $20, I get 3 large YUMMY meals!!

3 stars only because the food is good and plentiful. The place is cramped, dark and rather dingy looking. There were few tables (where one customer had eaten and fallen fast asleep) and something that appeared to be a DJ Booth ♀️ There was a fly swatter on top of the trash bin ♀️ Regardless of it’s appearance, customers continued to come in. Like I said, the food is good.

This place needs a makeover and need to be a lot brighter. There’s always a line I waited over 20 minutes for a pick up order because the lady wanted to leave out to get lottery tickets when there was 8 people in line. Very unprofessional and unorganized. I’ve been eating here for over 20 years the food is good but the atmosphere and owners need an upgrade period!!!!

Menu was short sweet and to the point. Place had this dark cozy vibe lol. No phone number. I got oxtail and curry goat. Some places don’t let you mix them so that was cool. The oxtail was dang near PERFECT compared to what I’ve had around here. The curry goat was REAL curry spicy lol it was so tender. I asked for the cowskin and they said they didn’t have any. I was at least impressed that it was an option because I have a hard time finding cowfoot around swp. Next time I’m ordering more oxtail than curry goat.
