J-Spec Menu – New York, NY

Type : Japanese restaurant

Location : New York, NY

Wagyu Japanese Restaurant
All wagyu at J-Spec are Black Wagyu, above A5 rank and above 10 BMS (Beef Marbling Value,) directly imported from Japan.
Wagyu has a distinct texture and flavor profile compared to American beef; the rich fat gives a “melts in your mouth” sensation.

Although many international markets recognize the quality and value of these meats, the high price point has been an obstacle, keeping the meat out of reach of most consumers. After working in different Japanese restaurants throughout New York City, we are thrilled to now be able to serve the cuts we are so proud of to our guests at this restaurant.

Wagyu & Tempura Omakase dinners are available now at 6:30 pm through Tues-Sat for limited seats with reservations.

Wagyu beef is showcased on elevated tasting & a la carte menus at this narrow Japanese restaurant. Based on 145 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.2 stars. Price $$

Dining at the cozy cylindrical dining area that transport you out of NYC. Authentic importer of Japanese A5 Waygu steak, you can be sure get you money’s worth. From salad to Udon to Donburi, waygu steak is feature as a core ingredient to each dish. The certificate can put off some people, but hats off 509, you tasted GREAT!

Little Tokyo East Village’s hidden gem. Certified Authentic Japanese Wagyu and Kobe Beef. The Best Japanese Wagyu experience. Very Professional Staff. I had Wagyu every way. I recommend the Shabu Shabu, Shoyu Simmered and Miso Simmered Donburi. Highest quality ingredients from micro-greens, ginger, daikon, wasabi, uni, caviar, udon, rice. Great place to celebrate a special occasion. Nice cozy, private, sound proof restaurant. Melt in your mouth Umami Savory Food. The Wagyu Dream Spot. I will say, slightly bigger portions than other Japanese restaurants in the same category. Go with a group of friends. It’s surprising filling.

Only a couple of days left for restaurant week in NYC. I think this place is pretty good if you order the right dish, otherwise, a little expensive. Chicken salad is pretty okay, thanks to the sauce. The tofu salad sauce is very bland. The wagyu steak donburi is the go-to for your main dish: better cut of meat, more food. The wagyu roast beef uni donburi is meh; I would other the other one unless you really want uni. I don’t like either dessert, maybe tiramisu or matcha pudding would have been a better option. We also order the overstuffed wagyu sushi that is pretty good as well.

Could easily say this is our favorite restaurant in New York City. We have visited J-spec many times this past year, in small (2-3 people) as well as mid-sized groups (6-8 people). The menu selection is amazing. I think we tried almost everything on the menu and loved every one of them (esp. the Ozaki steak, the shoyu simmered wagyu and the wagyu TKG). Their staff are super nice and friendly, always ready to answer any questions we may have, or offer their suggestions on wine or sake options.

Favorite place for wagyu in NYC! Everything is super fresh and well-tasting. Small intimate space.

Got the restaurant week deal. Overall, it was a bit overpriced, but I would go back again. The wagyu steak was delicious in flavor and soft to taste; I was a bit worried that flavors would be bland after reading other reviews, but fortunately that was not the case! Dessert was delicious as well (I got the soy bean pudding). Great internal decor, wonderful service. I especially enjoyed the complementary tea (houjicha) with dessert.

Tried the $60 restaurant week menu. The quality is very poor. The roasted wagyu beef salad and the appetizer trio are just like some refrigerated fast foods from a convenience store. They taste dry and cold. Too much sauce is used. The main dish A5 Wagyu Shabu Beef Bowl is okay, but it does not worth this price. The service is not good. The waitress wanted to rush up. She brought the next dish before I finished the previous one.
